Just watched this bout and Maligna really made Benn eat his jab.During the bout the announcers stated that Maligna had faced Benn before and had lost a decision in what many thought was a robbery.Anyone ever see the first bout?
Yes, Sugarboy was royally screwed, best you could of scored it was 6-4 Malinga... He was a little unlucky to lose to Eubank, although it was no where near as bad as Benn/MalingaI.
Thought Eubank beat Malinaga pretty comfortably. One of his best defensive performances. Agree that he got robbed against Benn.Nigel was never that good against boxers.
Malinga is criminally ignored sometimes. The best fights of his career took place within South Africa and mostly against his arch-rival Sakkie Horn, a fighter of average talent but blessed with a lion heart. He was a really cagey fighter with some lovely skills, some of which had started to slip by the time he gained some international prominence. However, he was basically unbeatable against local opposition and was unlucky with the judges in more than one fight.
It was hard for me to watch one. It was the period when I began to see that the boxers I'd first known- Bruno, Eubank and Benn- were all old and on the way out. To see Benn humbled by someone I'd never heard of was a hard experience. Maligna has to be one of the top African boxers. The man was made like a tree: you had to be willing to get cut up just to reach the trunk.
Anybody ever see Maligna vs Lindell Holmes bout?I heard for some reason Maligna just didn't perform that good and lost a decision.
