When asked when he will be fighting Spence Thurman basically ruled out next year. He said Spence won't be the next fight or the fight after, maybe after that we can see where we're at. Spence reacted to it when asked and said he is ready to fight Thurman in January but he knows Thurman doesn't fight it. I'm of the opinion that when tWo fighters really wanna make a fight it will happen, only one wants this fight and that is Spence. Thoughts?
Thurmans inactivity is why Spence is very much up for making this fight happen, I dont beileve Thurmans dodging him i think hes smart enough to know he needs to become active again before he unifys against Spence. Thurmans never been one too dodge a challenge before i dont see why he would start now. Give him a chance to return, 1/2 fights before Spence makes sense in my eyes.
Obvious Thurman will never beat Spence, never mind right after surgery and a long lay off. Thurman has to fight at least once to make certain he's fit to fight championship calibre level. Then fight a top 10, possibly rematch DG to see where he's at, then if he comes trough both he can accept the toughest most dangerous fight he'll ever think about having in the king of the ww Spence
Why is that obvious, Brook won 4 or 5 rounds off of Spence standing right in front of him, do you really think Thurman's hyper evasive some say running style won't cause Spence some serious issues? Its not like Spence is a savage one punch KO artist, he teed off on Brook for 11 rounds, and even then Brook quit to save his eye. Thurman's chin is better than advertised, he took massive bombs from Porter and Garcia fine, and they were a lot more reckless than Spence is, as in they at times fought like kamikaze's to land a shot. Thurman could easily nick 7 or 8 rounds off of Spence until he tires, and if he runs enough, Run Time can definitely see the final bell and SD him.
I think Spence is the better fighter. Spence win vs Brook in Sheffield was really impressive grinding him down like that. Definately a better win than Thurman beating Garcia...
I too had Brook taking a good chunk of that fight, I think Thurmans too elusive to be beaten by Spence, my only issue is how effective will Thurman be post layoff. If hes anything close to being what he was prior to this layoff i think he handles Spence and UDs him. Spence is very overrated in my opinion and i find it very stupid how he could be in anybodys P4P 10 listing. Thats not too say he isnt a improving fighter tho, great prospect still and clearly has talent, i just dont think hes this unbeatable animal people make him out to be
Spence gets hit. He's doing what he's supposed to do but I don't see nothing special there. He's straight up 'n down, no special effects. He ain't got no D and he needs to fight a slick fighter to prove he's legit. He ain't beat no one. Kell Brock was badly drained after having to come back down in weight and he was coming off a loss and a very serious injury and surgery. The only other fighter he beat is Algieri who is a blown up 140 pounder who couldn't even crack an egg down at 140, let alone up at 147 against big, strong welterweights like Spence and co. Shot Pacquiao bounced Algieri up and down off the canvas about 20 times times. Spence is a killer because he beat GGG and Manny's leftovers?? Give me a break! Thurman way to slick for that hype. Easy work.
I don't believe hes ducking, Hes just had two huge fights back to back, Porter was the most motivated hes ever been when he faced Thurman and it was an emotionally invested build up on both sides, the same goes for the Garcia fight two tough back to back physical and mental build ups and camps, Add to that his injury, i am not surprised hes not in a rush to jump straight back into another huge fight. 50/50 fight when it happens, spence is strong and can hurt thurman to the body for sure, but thurman is very clever and illusive, better lateral movement than spence, its an amazing clash of styles.
I don't want to see this next either. Thurman's coming off major elbow surgery and has had a hard run of fights. Let him have a tune-up and let's see the best venison of both fighters face off in the summer.
You said Brook was gunna do him in, but he proved you wrong and a lot of people had brook as the number 1 welterweight on the basis of his performance against GGG and beating Porter more convincingly than Thurman.
He's not top 10 p4p yet, anyone saying that is jumping the gun, however the top guys like Garcia, Porter, Thurman don't seem to wanna get in there with him so we can see if he what I think he is which is the number 1 WW.
From February Anything else Serge said during the lead up to the fight was just him in jokey mode (like he do), some call it trolling but from the conversations I've had with Serge it's clear to me he considers it more fun 'n games and forum banter Evidentally my concerns about Brock being weight drained were well founded. The beating GGG gave him and the eye injury clearly took their toll on him too. Spence is aight but he ain't got no D and we ain't see him in there with a slick fighter yet. Brock was definitely damaged goods and like I said C level Algieri is a blown up 140 pounder non puncher. Algieri's tactics in that one were bizarre to say the least, John David Jackass had him believing he was a puncher lol.
