I think a lot of guys are underestimating Thurman on this forum. I have seen him face adversity many times, and he has always found a way to adapt and win his fights. When Thurman fought Chaves back in '13 I was watching with a friend of mine. Both guys were undefeated knockout artists at the time. For the first half of the fight we could feel the electricity in the air. Both fighters were throwing and landing bombs. There was a sense that one punch from either fighter could end the fight at any time. It was the first time I had seen Keith face adversity in a fight he was by no means guaranteed to win. I turned to my friend at one point and said, "If Thurman can pull this off I will say that he is the 'real deal'." And, of course, he did. After two subsequent knockout victories against two rugged Mexican warriors, Jesus Soto Karass and Julio Diaz, and a win over crafty veteran Bundu, Thurman again tasted adversity against Robert Guerrero. In that fight a clash of heads caused a massive contusion to form on Thurman's forehead, an impediment he would have to deal with for the majority of the fight. Did Thurman fold from this or fight overly cautiously as many fighters would have? No! He took it to Guerrero, dropping him and nearly stopping him. I have heard it said that Thurman showed vulnerability in his following fight against Luis Collazo, in which Collazo caught him with a perfectly timed shot to the body. It was certainly a good punch that Luis landed and he had Thurman backpedaling for the latter part of that round. But, once again, how did Thurman react when faced with this adversity? He sucked it up and put a beating on Collazo, forcing him to quit on his stool between rounds. Without question, Thurman-Porter is a great fight to see made. By no means am I saying Keith will walk over Shawn. I just feel that whatever adversity Porter throws Thurman's way he will find a way to adapt and overcome as he has in his past fights. Plus, if Keith can keep his punches just a little more compact he can catch a wide-swinging Porter with some pretty hard punches as Porter is coming forward. I am predicting a victory for Thurman by stoppage in the second half of the bout or by clear decision. I also predict that some of the posters on this forum will be more than a little bit surprised by that outcome.
No hate for Thurman Jesus! Just support for Porter. He is always written off against crowd pleasing favorites but he has a huge heart and he is very determined.
Just caught the fight. As predicted, Thurman got on the lucky end of a decision that could have gone either way. Porter is a freaking best, albeit a little too straightforward.
