The tripleheader that GBP wants to put on. :think Is it me or does GBP/Showtime/Haymon are making Showtime Boxing similar to the WWE where you "showcase" your "stars" against " lesser opponents until they get hyped to be on their own PPV or part of it with a decent opponent? I understand Figueroa is coming off an injury that is why he should not take up the space on these types of fights.
Well right now they have no choice but to do tripple headers because of no HBO. Eventually, as Haymon keeps signing fighters; there will be even fewer dates for them on Showtime, which will equal less money. I think this will eventually damage the sport too. We may not like Top Rank but they match their fighters to become great. DLH, MAYWEATHER, COTTO just to name a few. They do not just match them with others just for matching them up like the UFC. Goldenboy has become the UFC of boxing and as a result, fighters are not becoming great. They can become great, but they are either rushed, or they are not fighting the best because of the Top Rank vs. Goldenboy or HBO/Showtime Feud.
Who's available for Thurman and Matthysse to fight? Remember, both of them want to stay at their respective weight classes
I don't know who is available but it seems they are leaving the best fights (on paper at least) for PPV's ala WWE.
You got a good point but this is now good business sense. WWE have this strategy and it works for them. Boxing promoters like Bob Arum has stated "I don't care about the undercard" And he is a big name. We fans want the best fighting the best being challenged in every outing but we get green hyped fighters taking tune ups that are acceptable until a point, then the point passes and still taking 'business fights' prolonging their ever pubescent break through. When you look at Pac/May incident; The two most iconic fighters of this generation never having fought each other in their primes, we fans have been let down by that fight not progressing and it has damaged the sport of boxing. The promoters of boxing today should have learnt from that. The amount of publicity it got brought boxing on the map. They let it go. And instead of trying to rebuild, they are trying to replicate
In WWE, ur only a lesser opponent if ur told be a one... So, no, it's not like WWE... But it works both ways... They hype a guy up, that guy loses, then they switch and hype up the guy that beat him... See Marcos Maidana for reference... He did it twice...
