Thurman wasn't saying that to down play Pac. As a matter of fact, he gave him props. It's just that he actually feels that way and he has good reasons too. Pac ain't no Superman and when he was fighting all those washed up welters he was being given peds without his knowledge. Thurman would end up knocking chucks of meat off the top of Pacs head. Pac's days in the spot light are fading fast.
Pacquiao will not be facing the Thurman or Brooks of the world in his first bout back, that is for sure. I doubt he ever will.
Who has Kieth Thurman beat to make you even believe he can handle Pac. sht all of 147 need to step up already and fight their closest competitors. Floyd and Pac are the reason this isn't happening. Everyone is pssyfooting looking for good risk/reward fights or the big payday. All bow down to Floyd and Pacquiao. :soccerbl: This fluffy 147 generation aren't on their level.
I wouldn't say that's accurate. Check out Basement Gym's records... 13 instances of WWs being recorded coming in above 160 out of 54 examples since 2009. http://basementgymboxing.blogspot.com/2015/01/what-do-welterweights-rehydrate-to_8.html?m=1
^ this is very much an imperfect example because the data is so incomplete and there is overlap with the same fighter appearing more than once. But I wouldn't say almost ever welter comes in over 160. Any welter who does would usually be considered a "big welter".
Well there are tons at 159 plus of those 54 examples you see the weight jumpers like Pacquiao, Marquez, Bradley, Mayweather a combined like 20 times and of course none of them will be, nor would any of the other guys who have risen up to WW. But a guy like Thurman and those who have began their career at WW or rose to it very early in their career will usually always weigh 160... or 159, I guess.
Most of the guys on that list that weren't 159+ lbs are weight jumpers with WW being their second or third division and in some cases even more.
I just went through and it was 10 fighters out of 35 in that time period. Certainly a guy who is fighting at 160+ at WW is usually someone who has either fought above 147 in the past or is expected to move up in the future.
