But moving up weight classes is not uncommon and many of the top welters fall into that category. The guys who fight at 160+ at welter are likely to have fought above 147 or to fight above 147 in the future. Those are the guys who are "big welters" for the most part.

If you list your top 10 or 20 welters I'd guess the majority do not come in above 160 on fight night. Certainly not almost all of them.

I find it more true to say that every WW who weighs below 153-154 in the ring are just "small welters" for the most part. We are both correct.

Mostly because WW is currently dominated by guys who conquered multiple divisions below WW and has largely been for several years now.

    Kell: probably yes
    Keith: yes
    Bradley: no
    JMM: no
    Chavez: no
    Porter: yes
    Ali: no
    Khan: no

    7 no, 3 yes.

Who comes in over 160? I only know Porter who's one of the biggest guys in the division. Perhaps Brook too. I'd imagine most comes in around 155.

    :thumbsup

I think a guy who comes in 155-157 fits the weight well in the current era.

Agreed, but it's the reality of the division at the moment. So I'd say most of the top guys don't come in over 160 :conf

Those are the ones along with Keith. From outside the top 10 there's Maidana and Rios as well. Spence too but he'll move up.

Tough pick between these two, I favor Pac but I also feel like Thurman could KO him. Make it happen, it's guaranteed excitement.

I doubt Rios is over 160 at fight night. Kid was a JWW 2 years ago.

Over 160 in his latest bout actually...

Brandon Rios VS Mike Alvarado - Contested at Welterweight

    Rios: 163
    Alvarado: 161

Brandon Rios VS Diego Gabriel Chaves - Contested at Welterweight (Chaves weighed one pound over the limit)

    Rios: 159
    Chaves: 156

Manny Pacquiao VS Brandon Rios - Contested at Welterweight

    Pacquiao: 150
    Rios: 159

:nod he was stupidly big at the lower weights. He'll move up again.

Came in over 150 at lightweight too. He's a softy though, just built slow and heavy.

Interesting. May I ask where you get the numbers? I mean is there a website like that?
