I really like this guy. And I hope this is true. Boxing needs another Evander Holyfield Type Fighter: Thurman: "This is what I've got to say: I'm an exciting fighter in the world of boxing. I have an '0,' and I'm not afraid to let it go. Yes, we've got good fights and we're moving well in my career. But I, as a fighter, personally, I am willing to take the risk, and I am willing to fight the fights that most other fighters won't fight," said Thurman. "I'm not really worried about really ducking and dodging and collecting that bank roll. I want to be a true champion. I'm old school. I want to be an old-school champion. I want to be that Sugar Ray Leonard type of champion. That Tommy Hearns type of champion. The Roberto Duran champion. Aaron Pryor. Marvin Hagler. That's what Keith Thurman's about. Evander Holyfield and guys like that paved the way for me to do what I do."
I think he gets beat decisively when he steps up in competition from here on. It might improve him as a fighter if he loses, though. The Quintana and Zaveck fights were deceiving as both of them were done.
WAR "UMA" THURMAN! That's what I like to hear... no more premadonnas in the next generation. No more **** like; "What if I lose?!", "He hasn't proven himself enough yet (so I fight a sissy instead)", "Legacy don't pay bills"... :bbb
hell yeah baby. There's a bull**** thing going around about how you need to protect that 0 I love this guys attitude.
Great attitude to have. But can he keep it up? Nearly all young fighters have that "I'll fight anybody" mentality. But that soon changes when they've collected their cheques and have a built up a resume/brand that needs protecting.
i agree but not all. You do get the "ill fight anyone guys" Oscar, Hopkins, Margo, Holyfield, Paul Williams Some fighters realize that it don't matter. I'd pay to watch Ortiz and Khan no matter how many times they lose cos they're fun.
Quit hating. He's referring to the type of champion he wants to be (fight anyone) This attitude is Better for us boxing fans
I like the guy... i mean it could all be talk but still he isn't taking easy fights, he is moving in the right direction and he is still fresh... he might lose but his attitude (if his words are true) is freaking awesome. people shouldn't be bitching about this guy because he wants to be a great champion... if i remember correctly many people here were calling for the upset when Thurman fought Quintana and Zaveck.
