Talks about it being made in 2017, finally we get to see Garcia with a live opponent since his Peterson fight. I believe steel sharpens steel so if you keep fighting poor opposition for a sustained period of time you will not improve and may even become worse. Garcia went on a run taking good fights when he fought Khan, Matthyse, Herrera and Peterson but his last 3 have been woeful for a 2 time champion. Thurman on the other hand has just fought one of the best in the division and beat him in a tightly contested affair. I think fights like the Porter one will make Thurman a better fighter, Garcia struggles big time with movers and Thurman is great at pot shotting and moving, his gunna jab his way to a clear and simple UD for me. How does this fight play out for you guys?
Thurman isn't "great" at pot shotting and moving but he's good enough to make Danny look silly at times. I got Thurman by schooling, possibly by TKO.
I thought he did a good job of it with Shawn Porter and Thurman's only defence for me is his legs. So his great at it compared to standard in the welterweight division, is he Floyd? No but name 3 better pot shotter in division atm than Keith?
Agreed with the rest of your statement, Garcia does have a chin so I doubt Thurman has the power to stop him.
True but, how long will that chin keep him in fights? You can only take so much. I don't think he gets knocked out, I could see the ref stopping it if it's bad enough. Danny's defense is poor. Then again, and some might disagree, I think Thurman's power is over rated. He did well with the pot shotting part, but not getting out of the way of the return, cleanly. But he couldn't bully Porter the way Brook could so that's easier said than done.
I think Thurman is a above average puncher but don't see him knocking out the top guys either his power isn't on that level. It's really hard to keep Porter off you, either you hold him like brook or you try your best to move out the way. Your right Garcia's defence is non existent but I don't see Thurman being dumb enough to trade with him when he can beat him on the back foot.
dont know which round but dsg always finds a way. one of those looping left hands and down goes thurman
I don't see Keith stopping Danny, (Danny's chin is beyond proven), but he's slow and planted, his style is to punch with someone else who plants and Thurman can box all night without planting. Danny has no ability to chase, pressure, or cut off the ring. He can't make it a dogfight like Porter, or Karass tried to. Danny gets schooled
I think if it comes off its a pretty good fight, I personally wouldn't sleep on Garcia possibly by stoppage to the body. Outside of Porter Thurman's resume is nothing to write home about, Keith struggled with Guerrero as much as Danny did, Bundu comes to mind as well. Pick em fight though need more of these fight's
That's certainly a possibility though I feel Danny can pull some "boxer" type moves out of his phillly bag of tricks. I've seen Danny do some good catch and shoot and while he normally doesn't show much movement he does have the ability. One thing is for sure if Danny can force Keith to commit more than usual he'll have an opportunity to work in some solid offense. As you stated the physically vulnerable guy here is Keith as Danny for all his average attributes is one gritty durable mofo.
Malignaggi and Guerrero are world champion's and DSG's first steps in the welterweight division. Thurman is probably the man to beat at 147, so fighting him within 12 months of going up is a great effort, who does that these days? (guys below 140 have weight divisions so close in size it's practically the same weight)
