Very difficult to predict, but Thurman's bad chin could be deciding factor. So, if I have to bet, I will put my money on Porter. But, Spence will be waiting for the winner; I expect Brook to move up at 154.
Look how fast of a writer I am.:yep It seems most of you are buying into the hype and conventional thinking that Thurman is just too skilled and too good for Showtime Shawn Porter, well stop with the groupthink, he's not. I've seen a lot of people on here saying Porter's chin is questionable, why? What particular reason would they have to believe that? He got dropped by Broner, go back and watch the KD, it was clearly somewhat of a balance shot, Porter was poorly positioned and Broner caught him with a perfect left hook when Porter was standing at an awkward angle, he wasn't hurt very badly, if at all, he probably wouldn't have went down had he been in a slightly different position, he had the wherewithal to try and plant his his feet and stay upright as he was falling to the ground. If he was so badly hurt he wouldn't have come back to muscle Broner around the ring and win the rest of the round. Aside from the KD, Porter beat Broner far more convincingly than Maidana did had it not been for the two KD's Broner would have been far more competitive against Maidana, one could even argue it may have been worthy of a draw, and Maidana was hurt far worse by Broner than he ever was by Mayweather, Broner whether you like him or not, has heavy hands, and Porter for the most part was unaffected by them. The same cannot be said for Thurman as far as sturdiness of his chin goes. Let's see..... Thurman was dropped and supposedly hurt by Quandray Robertson. Thurman was rocked by Diego Chaves Thurman was rocked by Jesus Soto Karass Thurman was rocked by Julio Diaz Thurman was rocked by Robert Guerrero Thurman was hurt badly and almost stopped by Luis Collazo That's one hell of a pattern.:think He's resorted to literally running from his last 3 featherfisted opponents due to his fear of being chin checked and still Guerrero and Collazo managed to get to him and hurt him. Not many fighters at Welterweight are as good at closing the distance as Shawn Porter, nor are there any that are as good at swarming and crowding opponents, literally never allowing them a moment to breath, he's one of the strongest Welters in the division, he was able to bully and muscle Kell Brook who by all rights should probably be a Light Middleweight. He's as strong as a ****ing ox. But Shawn Porter lost to a counter puncher like Kell Brook, right? Yeah he did but he also gave Brook one of the roughest fights of his career and literally manhandled him at times, it was all Brook could do to keep him corralled. And who's to say Brook is a level or two above Thurman? I could argue he is. He's definitely got heavier hands, he's also the sharper counter puncher of the two and one thing for certain is he's taller and far more physically imposing than the deceptively small One Time. Porter feints well, his jab is solid, has a hell of a left hook, good body puncher, has good head movement and gets hit far less than people think and his pressure is unrelenting. Downplay his chances at your risk. I said he'd beat Alexander with ease, he did. I said he'd brutally KO Paulie and early, he did. I said he'd dominate Broner from start to finish, he did. I said he'd be schooled by and lose to Kell Brook, he did. I'm saying he dominates and stops Thurman somewhere around the 7th.....he will.:deal This is a guy who was pressured non stop and almost stopped by an old shot to s*** Luis Collazo, think about it. And how will those left hooks of Porter's effect his wrenched neck, that hasn't fully recovered?
At this point....yeah I guess I am. But I was kidding, I wrote that piece earlier and its far from a perfect ****ysis, its just my ramblings from the Kirk's Championships thread at the top of the General Forum.
Thanks, and yeah it crossed my mind while writing it how well Spence closes the distance and pressures fighters, but I thought it was irrelevant to this particular match.
Yeah probably, I'd give Spence a damn good chance at beating Thurman, a match between Porter and Spence would be tough for me to predict.
Its close to 50/50 . It can go either way . Whos ever night it is will get win. One thing about porter i feel he keeps improving. Pick em fight imo . Thurman by decision im thinking
I feel Porter will try to be all over Thurman this fight but I don't know if it will work because Thurman has power. Look at who Porter has won against recently Broner, Malignaggi, and Bone. None of these guys has any power at Welterweight. Broner went from stopping guys to getting put on the canvas. Malignaggi was never a big puncher and Bone is a light welter who has lost his last 3 fights at Welterweight/overall. Thurman who is true welterweight and not only that but he can really punch but we have seen that he can be hurt by not the biggest punchers. So I say yeah it's about a 50/50 fight.
Thurman does not like pressure. If Soto Karass was able to hurt him early, Porter should knock him out.
