Thanks! I really like your critiques of both fighters, however ultimately I think Porter's are more grave since they effect the way he implements his gameplan more than Thurman. Thurman gets caught in awkward spots on the move, but for the most part is in position to punch. Porter on the other hand gets the job halfway done, and then leaves a lot to be desired offensively. Thurman is vulnerable for moments at a time, but Porter is ineffective half the time, which encourages a puncher like Thurman. That's how I see it anyways.
That KD had far more to do with Porter being off balance than it did him actually being hurt. If you think otherwise, that almost sounds like you'd be saying Broner hits harder than Brook, which I can almost guarantee he doesn't.
This content is protected 114-25 (64 KO) My record this year, that's 82% accuracy in picking winners so far, even most experts only manage something around a 75% accurate prediction level.:deal Be a smartass at your own expense.:deal
Excellent breakdown! I was leaning towards Porter until I saw that sparring footage. Thurman was finding openings fairly easily. And that's what he would need to do to win, IMO. The jab was working for him too. If THAT Thurman shows up then Porter is taking an L. If Thurman comes out too reluctant, looking for 1 shot and not setting things up behind the jab, I think Porter will out point him. Brook had his hands full with Porter's aggression. I don't think Thurman will be as successful at clinching and slowing Porter down, getting in clean shots, and evading Porter's shots, all while remaining in the pocket. I don't think Thurman is as explosive as Broner although he probably hits harder. That was a good shot Broner caught him with he never saw it.
Good conclusion, I sure hope you're right. I certainly can imagine Thurman really rocking & hurting Porter.
Interesting stuff, I should take a good look at the sparring footage. I don't see either as 'elite' but I'm hoping Thurman can put it out.
It would be great to see a Thurman v Brook showdown, if he gets past Porter. I think Porter would lose to Brook again, if the ref is not really strict about preventing the clinch. But, I wouldn't be upset if Porter pulls out a win here against Thurman...definitely would shake things up a bit at WW. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I used to do Kirk's league, I just can't commit to posting for a full year :-( The only expense will be the tenner I'll lose if you're right. But I doubt you will be on this occasion.
Like I said in another thread I believe this will be one of those fights where how you score a fight will matter. Porter will probably outwork Thurman but Thurman will land the better punches. Porter might be cut at some point and finish the fight with a bloody face. Even though he might end up outlanding Thurman, it won't be enough to win the belt and Thurman will be given the edge. This might end up in a draw as well. In any case, I'm very excited about this fight.
I spliced the most telling parts of the sparring session into my video, the session itself is long though still worth a watch.
Hussle vs Clean aggression. I have a feeling this is going to be a more elite-weighted Malignaggi v Broner. Where we see one fighter 5x or so punch output hitting gloves, body, arms, and head in equal measure while the other picks effective shots. The biggest difference is, in M v B neither fighter can crack, but in T v P we have two people who have significant pop to their punches. I'm pretty stoked about this, but if it goes to the judges I see fans arguing for weeks about the outcome as it will be a ruling that is very susceptible to subjective judging. (Output vs clean aggression)
Porter beating Floyd no way remember Maidana very close to Porter when it comes to aggression Floyd will play the matador with Porter countering him all night long.
