It was a good performance but he didn't push for a stoppage when he had Bundu down in the first. I think he could have gotten it, but probably did the right thing in taking his time and getting the experience. It reminded me of a fight of Framptons a few years back, can't remember against who, but where he was taking a step back and boxing, trying to pick up experience, instead of putting the foot on the gas and trying to KO a durable opponent.
Frampton vs. Turley? :think Robbie was buzzed early, wasn't he? Anyway, I sincerely doubt he could have stopped Bundu if he jumped on him. Thurman had done his due-diligence and homework on Bundu. He knew the guy's cagey.
I can't remember who it was. I remember my Dad saying Frampton doesn't like being hit but I thought he was just taking his time and trying to adjust and learn on the job. Yep he mightn't have got the stoppage or e might have, but he learned more by going the 12 rounds with Bundu anyway so it was a good fight by him.
Haven't seen it yet but have found a full video which I'll watch soon To me it sounds like he was tested, struggled a little but won comfortably Sounds like he passed a test
The "kayos all the time" talk is annoying, yes, but I don't think it should be held against him not managing to knock Bundu out. I can't think of a welterweight that definitely could.
Result was good, performance bad. Don't need to get ko to make fight entertaining. Other comment, Thurman also turn fan away after talk of people duck him when he do that. If he put on an offensive and exciting bout he pit pressure on Khan/Mayweather. What he do instead was take pressure away.
There's only one elite fighter at 140-147 that truly tries to get a KO every time out and that's Matthysse Let's be real
I thought it was pretty bad. Guy tasted Bundu's power and ran all night long. It was a snoozer of a fight, and Bundu was extremely limited. Thurman did not even try to press the action. I think it was the 5th round when Thurman got buzzed and preceded to backtrack all night long. This won't work against guys like Maidana. I really don't think Thurman believes in his chin; although, we've seen him hurt against guys that aren't big punchers like Bundu and Soto Karass. His chin isn't the best so maybe he is right in being so cautious.
