Since Hatton finshed who are the biggest ticket sellers in the uk,which is a promoters dream,i no Paul smith sells a few in liverpool:nut
Obviously Haye has sold out the MEN for his last two fights so he is the biggest. Khan will sell it out agaisnt whoever his opponent is on April 16th. Froch would still get 8,000 in Nottingham and I would imagine a few more in a bigger arena. Smith and Kevin Mitchell did 8,000 and 20,000 respectively for there last fights but we are unsure of how much such a one sided loss will effect there sales. Martin Rogan was another big ticket seller but has not had a big fight for a year. Darren Barker, John Murray, Paul McCloksey, Martin Lindsay all got around 2-3000 for there last fights at domestic title level. In terms of prospects Tony Jeffries, George Groves, Frankie Gavin, Chris Evangelou, Scott Quigg, Carl Frampton, The Walsh Brothers and Ashley Sexton all have big followings already. oh and Andy Lee would do 60,000 in a stadium in Ireland for a Darren Barker fight....apparently.
Against someone like Stephen Foster Jr I reckon he could. They could promote the fight with the England v Scotland angle and the Manchester fans seem to always travel.
The lower end of that range is doable. However Warren needs to get his house in order with regards to ticket prices. Just been on ticketmaster looking at tickets for Burns fight in March and the cheapest ticket is 55 quid + booking fee & postage. Works out about £120 for two of the cheapest tickets.
All promoters need to put their house in order re ticket prices! Derry Matthew's fight last week was £30 a ticket for the cheap seats. Now, it was local lads but only about four or five fights on the bill I think. Month after xmas. And no title on show. How can I pay the same for that as I have done for British title fights in the past? I have great beef with ticket prices for these small shows. I can understand paying £50ish for a world title fight. If I were to go to a premiership footy match I'd probably pay around the same for a ticket. I'm guessing a ticket to a championship game (akin to British title fights) would be about 30? But for small hall shows, tickets should be around the £15 mark with concessions available for kids etc.
I know mate, I've had the same conversation before. It's not something that can be helped but it grates on me.
Boxing in its current from just is not geared towards small hall promotions anymore. Fighter fight infrequently there is little television and people don't go to watch "the boxing" anymore they go to watch their mate. The only way it becomes more viable is fighter get paid less but fight more often and thats a bit of an ask.
It's such a shame though because with the cost of going to the footy these days, there are loads of people that I bet would be game to go and watch local lads in small halls maybe a couple of times a month. Someone with much more of a clue should look into this. If there were two fights on a month at the olympia for example, I'd deffo buy a season ticket for the year regardless of who was fighting. And there must be a lot of fighters out there (and, I'm not talking about elite level here) who love to be busier than they are and would take less money if they were guaranteed a fight every month!
Its down to uncompetative fights Paddy. Thats how the UFC packs them in. You evev have cage rage selling out wembley arena 12k Im sure if there was a 10k arena in Glasgow burns could fill it for a unification or Foster Jnr, or a Gamboa/Lopez type but i think 5000 is the biggest.
