Yes, that came about primarily due to the first KO loss to Delaney. Miller claimed that Delaney had loaded gloves and demanded a rematch. He was so vocal in his protestations that extra measures were taken to make sure the rematch was held on the up and up. Delaney knocked Flowers down and Flowers quickly rose and then seeing Delaney coming in for the kill he took a knee. Many stated that Flowers should have been DQd for this because at the time it was against the rules. In the heat of the moment as he was rushing and Flowers was going down Delaney hit Flowers with a punch. Oddly enough, Patsey Haley, the referee, began to disqualify Delaney. The crowd went into an uproar and after several minutes the bout was allowed to continue with the fourth round being started over. A few moments later Flowers was knocked out again, essentially for the second time.

From 1924 and for a while thereafter Delaney was Greb's top contender but every time Greb signed to face him Delaney would pull out with an injury or for some other reason. They were scheduled to fight a number of times most notably when Greb faced Ted Moore in 1924. Moore was substituting for Delaney. Greb was very eager for a fight with Delaney, and Berlenbach both of whom he felt he could easily outpoint. He probably would have given his good eye to fight McTigue as he had already dominated him in two bouts. They were scheduled to fight in 1923 but McTigue pulled out. He knew his title was as good as gone he fought Greb.
