Flowers. To big, to strong, I guess he would probably dominate the punching. No doubt Griffith can hit at MW, but probably not enough to see of Tiger.

But Flowers chin wasn´t the best, like you probably know. I think it would be a great fight...

Yeah, that's the thing, it wasn't great but I would figure Flowers to survive a Welter (he must have known every trick in the book). I agree that it would be a great fight, every round closely contested but Flowers winning most of them.

It should be said, though, that Griffith matched Dick Tiger in clinches. Maybe he could pull it out the hat.

Do you see Flowers visiting the canvas?

And as an aside, if Flowers had a granite chin, what would we have had?

    Burley...:D

You make a fair point. And Griffith beat a great MW in Tiger, that's worth remembering.

Flowers beat Greb twice, which is good enough for me.

But he did drop a contested decision to Walker - so there's your precident for a Griffith win.

Flowers with an iron chin would have been almost unbeatable, because he could have gone more often in the infight. I don´t know if Emile would KD him, because for Tiger more problems were pressure fighters like Bogash who throw non stop punches from all angles. Griffith had a pretty good one-punch, but I don´t know if he would land a great shot where Flower´s light goes out, the power was there of course...

    Yeah.

I've heard it said that Flowers was the guy who really broke the colour line, making it possible for his blacks to fight whites in the US, his conduct outside the ring being that of the "deacon" he was.

If it's true, he's not credited nearly enough.

That´s right, and it unfortunately also right that he´s getting too less credit for...
