Looking through and old Ring mag,I saw an article about Tiger Ted Lowry,in it he discusses his opponents , who included Marciano,Tiger Jack ,Joey Maxim , Harry Mathews,Lastarza, and Savold The five foot nine Lowry, really only a cruiserweight, said," Archie Moore hit him harder ,than anybody he ever fought",including Marciano. Lowry took the Marciano figths on short notice,he conceded Marciano won the rematch ,but insisted he should have got the verdict in their first fight. Lowry of course, is the only man to twice go the distance with Marciano. Tiger Ted said, boxing an exhibition with then Champ Joe Louis ,while both were in the army gave him the confidence he could handle himself, in all company.
Yeah, but Moore loaded his gloves... ... ... ....with talent. See, it really is better here than on the general forum.
Bert Whitehurst's record seems to agree with Tiger Ted's assessment of Moore's power. In addition to going the distance with a young Liston twice, Whitehurst went the distance with Bob Satterfield, Mike DeJohn, and a 24 year old Bobby Foster. Archie was the only man to stop Whitehurst twice.
