Title pretty much says it all. **** Tiger went to England from Nigeria and lost 4 straight fights, beginning with his debut on English soil to Alan Dean, who from his record appears to be a journeyman type. Tiger was never that consistent anyway but I was surprised to see him lose four on the trot against marginal opposition. Does anyone have more info as to why? Was he homesick? Did he initially not adjust well to life in England? Can anyone shed some light on this?
I think the answer is in the title. Tiger had to be matched right to look really good. He was just about unbeatable if you came to him but if you boxed and moved you could give him ten kinds of hell. I could see that being a much bigger problem the younger he is.
Did Tiger have much of an amateur career? He had a few early losses against nondescript opposition in Nigeria too.
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, he lost some early fights in Nigeria but I found it odd that he lost 4 straight upon making his way to England, especially considering that the opposition wasn't all that.
Maybe it was something of a big Culture shock for Tiger, A new Country a Different Climate, Perhaps different Cuisine..Perhaps an Overwhelming experiance, perhaps feeling isolated and missing Family .. and a tad Nervous a bashing up the Local Fan Favourites.. It might of taken him awhile to feel confident in Alien surroundings.
According to Makinde's biography of Tiger the poor start was in part put down to struggling with the climate of North West England and the diet. He also mentions that after the fourth defeat Tiger seriously consider going back to Nigeria, but after talking to a local reporter was encouraged to stay.
