Let me ask you this then. Do you think Pea Whitaker was 1 dimensional?

Mayweather is one dimensional because he cant outbox Tommy Hearns...... it all makes sense now.

No. He was extremelly versatile. He's a guy that knew when to press the action and when to box, which is amazing considering he had very little punching power.

Not to mention that I can't recall him ducking any challanges. Whitaker was a great fighter. He wasn't as good as an aggressive fighter as Duran for instance, but that's because Duran was built more for that particular role, while Whitaker was obviously remarkable at defense.

Duran is another example of a multi dimensional fighter. Against, Iran Barkley for instance, he showed excellent boxing ability.

    Could he outbox Vernon Forrest?

Name one fight where Mayweather has fought a tall, slick, fighter with an excellent jab.

And don't give me N Dou, that mother ****er was just tall.

    You know what I'm sayin?

And I didn't say Mayweather was one dimensional, although he don't look as pretty when he does go foward.

He was the aggressor against Sharmba Mitchell for instance.

But height and reach play a significant role in this particular scenario.

If Zab was taller and longer, an already somewhat close fight may have had a different outcome.

The fact is, we don't know how Mayweather would perform against that type of opponent because he hasn't fought one, and there isn't one available for him to fight.

SRL had Hearns, he won, but he had adapt and fight.

You do realize Mayweather's best weight was at 130 and 135. It's kinda hard for him to go up in weight and out box 6'1 Vernon Forrest or 6'2 Tommy Hearns. How many natural Lightweights with little power can out box those two guys??? The answer? None.

That's when versatility comes into play, which ironically is the entire point of this thread.

Sometimes you have to work your way inside and fight. And to me, Mayweather looks like a perfectly good welterweight at present time.

So in your opinion, could the version of Mayweather that beat Marquez beat Vernon Forrest?

    If so, how?

I think Mayweather could box, but at times he would have to be the aggressor. If Mayweather chose to only box, he would likely lose a decision.

Versatility is about styles clown. Is Pacquiao not versatile because he couldnt beat Vitali Klitscko. Not being able to beat a naturally bigger fighter purely based on size does not mean a fighter is not versatile. Both Oscar and Corrales were taller then Floyd, with good jabs. If you dont think Corrales had a good jab you havent seen his fights. Floyd beat both.
Same way Mora and Quartey beat him, by outboxing him. Floyd is faster and more skilled then either so he'd probably be able to do the deed. Though it'd be a 50/50 fight, not based on the fact that Floyd isnt the superior fighter, he is, but based on the fact Forrest would have be the bigger man.

Btw, Floyd and Quartey sparred with eachother, according to floyds own words.

The same way Sergio Mora and Ike Quartey beat him. By being faster, outboxing him,

Mora isn't faster then Forrest. Mora beat Forrest cause of the late rounds that Forrest stamina was a big problem. In the rematch Forrest show his boxing skills easily beating Mora with skills and faster hands.

its unfortunate that Pascal will fight Dawson coming off shoulder surgery to his power hand. I wonder if people will consider that when they get it on.
