Watch his fights against Mchunu, Kudryashov and Papin. Makabu has never been the best or even close to best cruiserweight in the world, but his fights were always very entertaining.

2017- fights at the full 160 limit for the first time against the top MW
2018- rematches the top MW champion
2019- first fight at LHW against the consensus #3 175 fighter
2020- second fight at 168 against the top SMW champion.
2021- fights the 2nd best SMW champion in Saunders

So no, Each jump has not been designed to challenge the weakest Champ. Golovkin, Smith, Saunders were not the weakest.

Also, most fighters who move up rarely ever fight the top champion or any champion for that matter before testing the waters in the new division first.

So how can Canelo not fighting the champion in a new weight class warrant any criticism?

I was just watching the Papin match. He's highly skilled and it was very evident that he has a lot of speed and agility for a Cruiserweight. Most Cruisers are much bigger and slower than Makabu. He's really a throwback to Cruiserweights from bygone eras. Not only that but he's awkward as a southpaw. That quick jab and the straight left surprised Papin on many occasions. It was apparent that Makabu was a big step up for Papin and he wasn't used to dealing with that kind of speed, agility and awkwardness.

Admittedly i should have wrote the last two weight jumps so whilst not lying but stand corrected

It was more of a typo in general

I gathered most would know what i meant

But true, i forgot there are defenders like you on here lol

Kova and Makabu are by design, end of story

Good luck to him but its glaringly obvious

He is good but i have strong doubts he can go higher than 168 and beat the cream of the crop

    Appears he does to

And im not actually Criticising him
In fact im enjoying watching it all

But your quite blind to Canelo and dont see that do you

Many fighters do what Canelo is doing without this much criticism or crying.

Foul play would be Canelo moving up to a division and fighting for a Vacant title against an unranked fighter or a lower tier top 10. Exactly what Pacquiao did when he got Jr.MW.

But this is Canelo fighting a real champion. So anyone that challenges Makabu is a cherry picker? Of course not. They are taking a legitimate challenge.

The same is true for Canelo. If he challenges Makabu, then he is also taking a legitimate challenge. Whether he sees something he can exploit in Makabu is irrelevant to the fact that he is challenging a champion who is amongst the top of his class in the division.

Nothing arouses Clenelo as much as the scent of an ageing, slowing fighter.

Toiled in obscurity for years...hardly anyone in the USA had ever heard of him (aside from regular ShoBox viewers, which is mostly diehards) until he went to England and lifted the belt off Witter.

All cherry picks. Picking up a belt from the weakest champ is just that. Getting a belt in a 3rd, 4th or even 5th division is impressive though. Even you have to admit, it would be a better win to take out the top guy in he division.
