Can't really call mares' bouts clean stuff and turn the blind one to Bradley's stuff, though. I take them as they are. Your thoughts on Ward?
My thoughts on Ward and Bradley are that most of the head clashes occur when they are on the inside landing punches. It is the result of Ward and Bradley not having the power to drop or force opponents to retreat or back fully out of the way, yet their opponents' only real option because of so is to dip their head straight down where Ward and Bradley's will be as a result of their output. A little rough, but very rarely dirty to me. In my eyes, what people consider dirty from Ward and Bradley is not in the same league as the dirty fighting and tactics Mares actually employs. I can specifically list out times in multiple fights that Mares has been real dirty. I would have to watch all of Bradley and Wards' fights again to come up with a short, weak list.
Mares was dirty against Agbeko 1, then won the rematch easily. Ward was quite dirty with Bika and Kessler
Ward definitely wasn't dirty with Kessler, I genuinely have no idea where this comes from. There was one bad headbutt (that caused one of the cuts) that occured in round 10 I beleive, or 9...one of the later rounds, that could be called intentional. (But wasn't) Other than that, and Mikkel Kessler fans complaining about it, there wasn't much else to note, there were a few head-clashes that were due to pretty natural causes (the most notable of which, was Ward trying to move inside, and Kessler hitting him with a headbutt which caused his head to move upwards and make contact with kesslers, but they were few and far between. Ward just straight up bullied and outboxed Kessler in that fight and looking close to stopping him at one point. That definitely was not a dirty fight (or was not won through dirty tactics) and seems like a lot of excuse making from Kessler and his team. Both of the headbutts that occured came from the mutual coming together of both fighters, not Ward trying to headbutt Kessler. Mares is just plain dirty.
He didn't clinch too much in the Kessler fight, he just smothered him and stayed close, Kessler would often clinch to stop the onslought, Ward would then continue to work inside the clinch (which is perfectly legal) and Kessler would just stare blankly at the referee Nothing dirty or wrong with inside fighting / fighting inside the clinch
