It would be cool if he wasn't ducking drug tests and fighting over the hill fighters.

Yep, that's him. And kudos for his solid piece here. It's about time.

Smith wrote another piece not too long ago about Pac which tried to go most of the way back to regaining his shattered credibility (as regards Pacquiao) after the email debacle and the putdowns of the Margarito fight.

Now, it appears as if Timmy has come fully over from the dark side of the force.

Here's the difference between people like Kevin Iole and Tim Smith, on the one hand, and Vivek Wallace and Fight Hype on the other hand:

Smith and Iole have to deal with things as they are. Though they are both demonstrated Mayweather fans and have made repeated Pacquiao-unfriendly statements, they both now understand that Pacquiao runs the sport and is growing in stature by the minute. So, they either turn tail and jump on the bandwagon now or they will be left behind and isolated, much as Smith was after the farce email scam. Now Timmy wants back in the mix, and this is his way of trying to get back in.

Fight Hype and other writers, on the other hand, are either too tied to Mayweather to give up the ghost now or else are still chasing down dreams that died several years ago. I seem to remember that Vivek Wallace tried to circulate a petition demanding a PBF-Pac fight after, I think, the Pac-Margo fight. How'd that work out?

Vivek Wallace doesnt have to answer for his failed petition. He's an internet guy, with no real stature beyond that. Iole and Smith have to deal with Team Pacquiao and Arum -- or be excluded by them. So if that team is running the sport, and they are at this time, you have to try to be on their good side. Or else you're on the outside looking in and ducking press conferences and events like Smith was for a while after the email farce. Newspaper editors and bosses aren't really big on that kind of thing, in my experience.

Tim Smith and Kevin Iole seemed to hope Mayweather would "win" his public relations game with Pacquiao. That didn't happen, and isn't likely to happen unless Pacquiao is upset by a Mosley or someone else. Pacquiao "won," Mayweather has "lost," in the court of public opinion. So Smith and Iole have to accept that and move on.

Fight Hype and Vivek Wallace aren't moving on. They're stuck, tilting at windmills like Don Quixote and hoping that Shane Mosley can bring them some kind of proxy victory. Wallace is forced to try to explain and spin things guys like Larry Merchant say about Mayweather ducking Pacquiao. And he has to try to revive the testing distraction. Don't agree with him? You're a "radical."

At some point, given the current state of affairs, entities like Fight Hype and Vivek Wallace will probably have to give up their fight against the tide of reality. But they're not there yet; they haven't come to that point yet. Iole and Smith have, or are at least getting there. Until then, those defending Mayweather and still trying to help him "win" against Pacquiao will be forced to try to plug an ever-increasing number of holes in the dyke.

Don't envy them. They are failing and often making themselves look poorly in the efforts. That's the price you pay when you continue to ride a horse after that horse has lost its race.

Pacquiao is clearly the hottest trending boxer in the sport and clearly the face of boxing, the population strongly disagrees with you.

Shoot any A level fighter up with drugs and he will be the hottest trending fighter. :deal

Pac is like generic Pop music. His fans are like the ignorant 12 year old fans who buy it. Just cause the crap is selling doesn't make it quality art. :deal

Pac is better than quality art. It scared Floyd to hide away in the closet like a you know what.

BTW did you see Pac is meeting with the President of the US today? Where's lil floyd today, tweeting more nonsense. What a pathetic turd floyd is.

No. Pac is "quality art" that the scam artist won't let anyone inspect. Fraud.

No. Pac once again being used and abused for others' gain.
