What rep Sylvia had really isnt going to suffer much from the odd loss at this stage given the way he's been beaten previously. Infact perhaps just the opposite, a loss on a small show might go unnoticed by alot of fans but if he got his ass kicked again by someone like Overeem on showtime then his ability to draw in smaller shows might well diminish more. If Sylvia was really hard up then he'd probabley be trying for another shot at the bigtime and the potential big money that brings. In order to get that money though he'd probabley have to get past at least one quality fighter in the UFC or SF. Off the bat he'd likely not be earning much more for either of them than he is working these smaller shows in the main events. Tim doesnt really strike me as someone who'd have blown 750K in a couple of years either, not unless theres a big donut tax in Maine anyway.
unco-ordinated and over weight. he's been taking advantage of the super heavyweight division outside of the big orgs. his weight is awful. tims a mess but he is awkward and effective. at 311, he can't be too interested in preparing for his fights.
311lbs!? What a farce, honestly. If he'd got his weight down like he did for Buentello last year, and won this fight against Wagner, he'd have been in a decent position to negotiate with Strikeforce/DREAM/Bellator for a contract worth more than what these small shows can offer. Big Tim still has name value, but nobody wants a fat mess that just got KO'd in thirty-two seconds by a TUF contestant. Nice to see Abe Wagner using Vitor Belfort's punching technique circa 1997 though.
You are right, he could have negotiated himself a better contract but it could be argued that Sylvia single handidly ruins MMA credibility. Once the UFC champ, then ko'd in 9 seconds from a shot boxer and then ko'd by a TUF contestant who I think was an American footballer? Abe looked alright to be fair. For a big guy he seemed relatively agile.
damnnn sylvia can't take a punch like he used to. I remember him getting knockdown by arlovski and still able to continue. It's time for him to retire.
He didn't train hard...looked even slower then he did a few years ago. Time got what was coming to him. When you don't give the guy your going to fight respect, then you can get cought.
He had NO CHANCE of getting back in the UFC. He and Dana fell out. Plus Tim's value is zero. Whilst he is a veteran he doesn't bring anything to the table. I think he even out bargained himself negotiating with SF.
True. He was one of the most unpopular uncharismatic champions they ever had. Always felt bad for him cause of that as he wasnt a total dickhead like Hughes
I'm sure I remember hearing that dana said the winner of him vs rizzo would get another shot in the ufc
Sylvia was boring and lacked personality. The only people who would care for him are people like us, hardcores, who appreciate he is awkward, effective and far exceeded his potential. However, the guy no longer cares for himself and at 300+ pounds he might as well call it a day.
