Mendoza and "great" don't belong in the same sentence as for beating Wright and Quartey ? no just no.

Phillips was ahead on the scorecards and floored and beat up Tszyu, i don't think Tszyu ever really showed he could beat Phillips what's his best win vs Zab Judah ? stylistically Phillips is always a problem for Tszyu.

Vargas beat Wright, Quartey, who are a level above anyone Tim has been in with how would Tim fair against the likes of a prime ODLH and Trinidad ?

Anybody who can sell tickets gets the rub and suddenly becomes someone who can beat a very very good fighter from history, the calibre of he has never even fought. This is like the Pavlik Youngstown guys in 2007 until Martinez took the last bit of hope. They used to be called "Pavlickers", you guys remember that? Pavlik had a much more legitimate claim though, so maybe this is more like the Montreal/Bucharest Bute fans. JCC Jr. had a lot of fans, too.

Tim looks like a bulldozer at this weight, but I would like to see him against an in-prime natural 154lb fighter. Holding the WBO title hostage is some nasty Zsolt Erdei work but I wouldn't put it past these guys with all the cash they're raking in. Timmy at this point is doing the Germany/MTLBox/Oakland style to maximize profits and perceived legitimacy at the same time, but the matchmaking has definitely been limited to recently knocked out guys with 'one up - one down' type records at a world level. Drag some guys to Australia and pay them good to lose, OK. Color me impressed. Vargas took all comers and he came up the fast way and by the end of it he had a ton of marquee fights. Vargas is a good comp for Tim Tszyu and where he could be.

It's cool to be an Ultimate Warrior fan, but don't tell me I should paint my face too.

He fought in a great era when you think about it. Was he ever on the top 10 P4P list?

SO many uninformed opinions from new fans. Always sad to see the great champions get disrespected by newbies who read boxrec on anything that happened before they started following boxing but have no idea about CONTEXT.

Vargas was elite until Tito Trinidad RUINED him. He was half the fighter afterwards.
Tszyu is barely more than a prospect, belt or no belt. With his resumee he is a talented, promising young contender no more. If you ask me in 5 years i might just pick Tszyu but right now the question is just an IQ test and a third of you failed.

What? Kostya never fought above 140. Vargas fought most of his career at 154 and even had some fights at 160. I agree that Kostya was way better pound for pound but he is not jumping two weight classes and beating prime Vargas.

Regarding Judah, he was not laid out, he simply got up to fast and was wobbly so the ref stopped it. It was a correct stoppage based on Judah's reaction but it's not like Tszyu was dominating him. It was the other way around until Tszyu caught him with a great right hand.

I'll go with Vargas right now. I'd like to see Tszyu in with some elite fighters before I pick him in this match-up.

I will say I don't think Vargas had the best chin, although he did have a ton of heart (like Wilder). It's possible Tszyu catches him and knocks him out. Still, Vargas was a beast in his prime and probably got ruined by Trinidad.

You do realise that Tim has been waiting around for years for Charlo?

What else would you have him do? He’s fighting legitimately dangerous and highly ranked opponents and he ain’t ducking anybody so I have no earthly idea what all that word salad above is supposed to be getting at. Holding the belt hostage? Are you stupid? Tszyu fought 3 times last year, he only held the belt for one of them and fought the top contender. If you want to find the guy holding the place hostage, l suggest the look for the coward who has locked up the belts and only fought at 154 three times in four years. Saying Tim Tszyu is holding the WBO belt hostage is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen somebody say on this or any other forum.

Tszyu can only beat what is there. And Charlo ain’t there. As for “natural, in prime” 154 guys…well what in the hell was Mendoza? FFS.

Vargas was by every stretch of the imagination the elite of elites at JMW. It's really crazy that he achieved so much so quick and young and then just kinda sputtered.............

He fought Raul Marquez, Winky, Quartey and then Tito almost back to back to back. That's insane. That probably also led to his supernova downfall. No matter how I feel about the Winky fight, it was neck/neck. There is no way I'd pick anyone at JMW in the last 10 years to beat Vargas. The Vargas that lost to Oscar would beat Tszyu let alone the Vargas on the come up.

Yeah this is how I see it but with proper drug testing and no Winstrol for Fernando it’s Tszyu in 2

Lol at all this 'Vargas lost his biggest fights' talk to justify him losing to Zoo.

How does losing to Trinidad and Hoya equate to losing to the likes of the untested Tim.

Who has zoo even fought to give any basis to the notion he beats a prime Vargas.

I'll take the guy who beat Ike comfortably, ran Winky razor close and had a hall of fame war with a prime Trinidad.
