Didn’t Spoon throw that fight to get away from Don King or something?

This is ridiculous really. Spoon was in no way ready 4 this fight. Knowing Smith's reputation as a big puncher and that Spoon was in deplorable shape, it was obvious before the fight even started that Spoon would get obliterated. On the other hand, Moorer was putting up a great performance up until he got cold-cocked. Of course, Spoon did take a beating from Bruno and TKO him late. However, I think Moorer was tougher than Bruno. So does Spoon have a chance, even at that weight? Maybe a little, but it would be a HUGE UPSET if Spoon could pull that off.

I know it's ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as @NoNeck claiming Smith's win over Witherspoon was = Foreman's win over Moorer. Then he dug his heels in and said Witherspoon beats Moorer any day of the week at any point. I am not exaggerating, he said this.

Moorer actually didn't put on that great a performance before he got cold-cocked. He let Foreman manipulate him into getting cold-cocked...that's a a bad performance. He got some good shots off and at times appeared to be ahead in the fight and to have some control. But if you watch that fight again...I mean, it appears to me Foreman was waiting for his moment. I mean, he never really looked worried. At least to my eyes. I think his ko of Moorer was not too far away from the smarts involved by Ali against himself. He had Moorer figured out. Had he not used his ring smarts, GF would have been badly beaten. He not only wasn't, he blew the undefeated, undisputed champion out. Hard.

So I can't say Moorer put on a great performance. A great performance is Holmes Shavers I. Just my opinion.

Moorer by UD, and it would be a big yawn.

Bonecrusher's win doesn't count because he did so well.

There was easy money to be had, Smith was a big underdog.

Well, ok, I agree. Great is an exaggeration. But Moorer was looking pretty sharp 4 the whole fight.

Makes sense. Spoon was in bad condition when he beat Bruno. Why couldn't he beat Smith?

Witherspoon was a very bizarre heavy, in some ways more than Bowe. To me he never looked as good after he fought Holmes, and that fight I thought he lost by only a couple of points.

He won the title not looking anywhere near as inspired as the Holmes, and he lost the title, then won it again...the whole time looking overall pretty boring.

He had a couple of good wins, but it's hard to place him (even as a two time champ) above, say, Norton. I don't even have him in the top 30 ATGS heavy. No reason to. He peaked really young, and then he cared on and off.

Tempting to put Weaver above him as ATG. At least he seemed to care more often than not (when he wasn't similarly sleepwalking through fights).

    Because Smith drilled him.

Do you mean that Smith drilled Bruno?
