[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrfVcUCVifI[/ame] Damn i always loved tim, and though anders was not the best fighter ever, that punch was crazy, looked like he had killed him, he hit the floor badly to
The man in the clip was actually named Anders Ecklund. Don't know why they listed it as Lillen Eklund. But, in either case, it was a classic knockout and one that often appears on a lot of replays.
Man I miss USA Tuesday night fights. Those were some of the best fights ever. Al and Sean were awesome commentators together too. Im suprised Showtime didnt pick them up. Al was always as good or better than his brother.
Looked like it got him behind the back of the ear, which is maybe the most concussive place to get punched and actually illegal, technically wouldnt that make it a DQ
Ecklund was being overhyped in the early 90s.... He was big, yet also untested..... Well, Ol' Spoon tested Ecklund's chin..... It turns out that Ecklund was a stiff.... I never heard from him again after this KO..... MR.BILL
Lillen was his nickname, meaning "little one", which obviously he was not. I along with other posters briefly discussed this KO with Anders Eklund himself on another boxing forum. He said it was, of course, the hardest he had ever been hit.
Tim's right hand was sweet. It could be looping to a ridiculous level but it landed, it looked like Bowe's right hand a fair bit.
If you look at Ecklund while he's on the canvas, the whole right side of his face looks perpetually frozen from that shot...LOL.
My dad saw him in the early 80s around the time of the bruno fight, he said the guy was massive, and he really thought he would be something speacial, of course being big dont mean much if you are not that good any way, but damn was he badly KOed there, he also got wiped out by both bruno but before that by another british fighter Noel Quarless who lennox lewis beat in 2 i think, the quarless KO of big anders was also brutal in its own way
I wouldn't say it would be uncommon for Witherspoon to land that looping right behind an opponent's ear, but I believe that one was closer to the temple.
Witherspoon had a few similar knockouts. Mercer said Witherspoon him him harder then Lewis did, actually.
Some guys make good victims Eklund was one....Adilson Rodrigues was another...they got knocked out so good....
The overhand right was one of Tim's favorite weapons. He was one of the few heavyweights of his generation who could throw it appropriately and with devastating force. I saw Spoon kayo several guys with that same punch.
