Let's say Witherspoon is born 10 years earlier and turns pro 10 years earlier. So he starts in the early 70s. How does he fare against Ali, Frazier, Norton, Quarry, Foreman etc.
He's a Norton variant, except he wouldn't score a win over Ali, but also wouldn't fall victim to every big puncher he comes across
I actually don't think Witherspoon would beat a prime Young either. Seeing as how Witherspoon got a gift decision against the awkward Snipes. I see Witherspoon being frustrated against the slippery Young and losing a decision. Witherspoon does have some better attributes than Norton like a better chin and a better defense IMO. But his workrate isn't on the same level as Norton. Also whilst I do see Witherspoon faring better against punchers than Norton did. It would also depend on what version of Witherspoon fought these punchers aswell. For example if Witherspoon turned up with the same mentality that he did against Bonecrusher the 2nd time. Then someone like Shavers could easily jump on him early and stop him. So overall I don't think Witherspoon repeats Norton's success against Ali or Young. But he probably doesn't lose to Cooney, Shavers, Garcia either. Although as I said if Witherspoon turns against Cooney or Shavers in a lazy fashion it's not out of the realms they could jump on him and stop him.
He'd do well if he's consistent. The likes of Quarry, Shavers etc hd beat. Norton and he could make a great fight. Ali, Frazier, Foreman defeat him but all could be interesting fights.
