Low 20's for me. Legacy wise Witherspoon might not be as great as Chalres or Wills, but head to head he might beat them.

Fair enough. He'd have a decent chance, yes.

I was just curious as I'd never seen you post yours before, IIRC.

A few points I'd make: Tyson at 1? :nut Foreman much too high. Surprised Frazier and Johnson don't make your top ten. The placings of Louis and Ali are insane. Bruno doesn't belong near there, Baer too high as well and Tucker way, way, way to high. He'd maybe make 118th in my list: if I were to expand it that far. :yep

He's is a bit underrated, a top-25 heavy minimum.Gave Holmes Hell in spurts, beat Tubbs and Page(albeit, overweight and in Page's case, unmotivated), Kayoed Tillis, and Broad, shut out Smith, and beat future crusier champ Ratliff by stoppage.Though he was lucky to beat Snipes in a gift, he had a strong first half of the 80's decade.

Was watching Spoon earlier today am actually a fan of him.

The fact that he was so unmotivated but still achieved what he did is pretty cool. Really skilled fighter who learned his craft the hard way in those Philly gyms. He took Holmes to the absolute limit with only 15 fights!

He was very good but he is not underrated. I liked his style.
He should rate alongside Mike Weaver and Trevor Berbick.

I have Tim Witherspoon sitting right around number twenty five on my all time heavyweight list... No, he was not pretty to watch and had more controversy surrounding his career than a dead carcass has flies, but his win list and body of works is better than a lot of guys who get far more appraisal.. He was rated in the ring magazine's top 10 for a combined ten years, with some periods broken up, and for a few years was even in their top 3-5... He won two alphabet titles By beating reasonably good talents in Greg Page and Tony Tubbs.. He battled Larry Holmes to a near draw in only his 16th pro fight in a scheduled 15 round championship brawl.. He continued to be competitive until he was over 40 years of age... During his pro career he beat

    - Tony Tubbs
    - Greg Page
    - Frank Bruno
    - James Tillis
    - Renaldo Snipes
    - Carl Williams
    - Jose Ribalta
    - James Broad
    - Alfred Cole
    - James Smith

And was arguably robbed against Ray Mercer when he was ancient, plus beat decent prospects in Marvin Stinson and Alonzo radcliff. His first round KO over the giant Swede Ecklund is also a classic in some circles... It should also be noted that while some of his short cummings were of his own doing, part of his career was derailed by dirty politics, and in fact he is often credited as being avoided by many of the best in his day... The guy is no Muhammad Ali and while I can't call him an all time great, I'd say he did enough to at least be knocking on the door..

I dont think you can say he matched Holmes win against Mercer. Holmes outclassed a peak Ray, Witherspoon arguably labored to a tight win against a Mercer 4 years older and a whole helluva lot less relevant.
