Depends what you mean by underrated. He's outside my top 40 or so. Make of that what you will.

That's a crazy list. Ali ahead of Joe Louis? Lennox Lewis ahead of Larry Holmes? David Tua ahead of Chris Byrd? George Foreman ahead of Mike Tyson? Joe Frazier not in the top 10?

    Madness.

Ali's opposition was much better than Joe Louis' , but then he cheated most oftenly against it , but then we don't know all d stories about Joe Louis , we do know that he hit Buddy Baer after d bell in their 1st fight , I do know that Louis clearly lost 2 Arnold Cream in their 1st fight only 2b granted a gift from d judges , I do know that he ducked Lee Q Murray and avoided a rematch with Schmelling until Schmelling was old & shot , and Schmelling was a lesser heavy , even lesser fighter than , say , Oleg Maskaev . Any problem with this ? check Schmelling's record closely , then check his opponents' .
I M pretty sure that there is more 2 tell but it will never b told .
However , I guess we both agree that Ali is definitely not #1 .

I can bare your differing opinion regarding Lewis over Holmes .
Ibeabuchi TKO5 Byrd , while Tua deserved 2 win against him or at least a draw , Byrd was badly beaten by Wladimir , once even stopped by him while Tua was not floored even once by Lennox Lewis , how many fine stoppages did Tua had and how many Byrd had ? Byrd did not beat Tua whom at least deserved a draw against him as well , Byrd gained a close decision (did he deserve it ?) over Fres Oquendo . Tua ? he stopped Oquendo b4 d 9th rd ended . Both outpointed Jeff Wooden over 10 , is it clear enough now ?
I bet u speculate Byrd would have KOd John Ruiz quicker than Tua did .
But then , d sport is not all about KOs , it's about fighting in 1's hometown and sealing judges' decisions in d smaller letters and hidden parts of contracts .
I could even bare 1 swapping Tyson with Foreman in 1's list .
And most definitely , Joe Frazier does not belong in d top 10 , u must probably think he deserves it better than McCall , but Frazier was floored by Oscar Bonavena twice and Joe Bugner once , while McCall TKOd Lewis in 2 (as opposed 2 Tyson) and KOd Akinwande in 10 , floored and beat a much bigger and 7 yrs younger Lance Whitaker , went 10 with Douglas (as opposed 2 Tyson yet again) .
McCall's opposition >> Frazier's opposition and McCall did better against it .

It's not that he is under rated as much as he was an under achiever ... he had the skills to be so much more and he pissed it away through poor conditioning and an over all inconsistent level of dedication and focus ... he had good size, good speed, terrific power, great defense and a rock chin ... he might have been a 9 or 10 ATG ...

No way. If anything, you rank McCall too low.

Along with Page,Dokes and Thomas,a heavyweight of that era who had talent in abundance, yet never fulfilled his true potential.
