It seems plausible that Tyson might be afraid of Witherspoon given that he lost to a guy who was beaten by Bowe and Moorer.

 

People are talking during Tyson's title run :huh

 

How is that relevant? Tyson was still very good when he fought the guy who managed to lose to Bowe and Moorer. I think comparing the 80s Tyson to the 1996 Tyson is valid.

 

How is that relevant? Everybody is talking about Tyson avoiding defending his title against Witherspoon. You start talking about Tyson may have been afraid of him because he lost to Holyfield. Last i looked this was after Tyson had the title and is accused of not defending vs Tim.

This Tyson scared of and ducking Witherspoon is a good chuckle. Even IF Cayton didn't want Witherspoon in TYson's title defenses that has nothing to do with Tyson being "afraid" of him. IF politics deemed King didn't want to make Spoon no money too bad, not as if Tyson run from him.

Here are the facts of the matter

Witherspoon beat absolutely nobody after getting hammered by Bonecrusher, until he nabbed a split decision over a Carl Williams who Tyson had raped in just 1.33secs two fights earlier. By this time Tyson didn't hold the title anyways.

Witherspoon did absolutely nothing to deserve a shot at Tyson, regardless of Bonecrusher II excuses, percieved or real. At least Williams had beaten Berbick just before fighting Tyson, which is a lot more than Witherspoon did.

 

Thomas, Biggs, Tubbs, Bruno all got shots at Tyson.
Their credentials were no better than 'spoon's.

If it had not had been for his being blackballed by King, Witherspoon would have been a natural choice. He was a name fighter, and with Tyson steadily eliminating the top contenders he would have gotten a shot.

 

Spooky. I was checking through some old discs last night and that was one of the fights I rewatched. Tim just absolutely beat the daylights out of Gonzalez by the end, great overkill knockout.

Tim was looking good at that time, but after he lost a close and fairly controversial decision to Mercer in his next fight, it seemed like he lost a bit of drive again. That was always his problem, motivation.

 

My statement was that Witherspoon did nothing to deserve a shot vs Tyson. It is spot on. Whether others deserved their shot is up to conjecture, but Witherspoon did absolutely nothing to pressure Tyson into fighting him. I agree Witherspoon would have been a nice "name" on Tyson's hitlist, but it's not like he avoided the man one bit. He was flogging on some guys that had beaten Witherspoon. Biggs for one deserved a shot well before Witherspoon, the others were certainly a mixed bunch. You can't however fight everybody and Tyson cleaned out the most deserving challengers.

 

Explaining how others may have misread your own words again? My suggestion, do better with your points from the beginning and there is limited need for clarification.

 

It must also be said that Holyfield and Bowe could have easily taken on Witherspoon in all the time they bounced the title back and forth, but neither went anywhere near him. Bowe fought far worse and less deserving fighters (not that Witherspoon set the world on fire, but hey, he beat Williams just after Tyson lost the title) Tim was also performaing better than Bert Cooper, who Holyfield defended against.

 

I can't dumb it down any more Rocco, sorry mate but that's as easy as it gets. If you read properly you would see i'm not even explaining my statement to Sonny per your idea, tho you've somehow (god knows how) taken it that way.

Do you see me saying anything about misreading?

 

Just noting a particular arrogance regarding a poster... nothing more.
