I know I say it ad nauseam but people here constantly underestimate Floyd, who was great.

He was great in certain contexts. But there are lots of guys I’d favor to beat him and a lot of them weren’t necessarily “ great “ in the big picture of boxing history

Fair take. Of course like will all these, we’ll never know for sure.

Tim hits him with an overhand so hard Floyd's eyes cross for life.

It would be a miracle if this fight lasted 2.

OK now y’all are getting into LaLa Land. Witherspoon was not Sonny Liston, he wasn’t close to historically elite other than one night against Holmes.

Patterson couldn't stop that jab. He didn't have enough power to make Tim stop and respect him.

Just my opinion. Tim would have squashed him.

That’s all any of this is, opinion. But Floyd’s power was deceptive and he would have Witherspoon badly outquicked. I just think people sell Floyd short because it’s been so long since he fought and because of the Liston debacles, although Liston who was historically elite did that to a lot of folks and IMO would have ripped people like Witherspoon and Ruddock to shreds.

It's a conspiracy I tell you. .....why are angels food cakes white and devils food cakes black? The same nefarious forces that robbed us of a Foreman/Holmes fight conspires to make devils food cakes black!

Honestly, Ney, I can't bring myself to criticize Larry Holmes's career for any reason. He didn't have Cassius Clay's advantages. He didn't have a team of backers or an Olympic gold medal to propel him. He is a self-made man, rose from a lowly sparring partner to a dominant heavyweight champ, and was one fight away from matching Marciano's undefeated record. He was a formidable pugilist who saved and invested his money in his hometown and stayed married to one woman. I think he's exemplary. His major fault is he lacks charm.

He was pretty charming when he dropkicked Trevor Berbick.

Patterson did have a real nice left hook.

Sure, I pick Liston against any of the above.

I like the peek-a-boo vs. cross-arm matchup, although we got that with Floyd and a late-career Archie Moore.
