I think he could legitimately have defended against Denver Ed Martin,Sam McVey ,and Jack Johnson in the last 2 years of his reign. They would certainly have had as much chance against him as Jack Munroe,John Finnegan and Jim Corbett second time around. Lets not pretend that he never defended against the black challengers because they had no chance, what chance did the aforementioned have?

As to his "aura of invincibility" he was the first heavyweight champion to retire undefeated and there had only been 3 before him, what was there to compare him to?

Maybe referencing the fact that among historians that saw Jeffries, I believe there's almost a consensus among them that Jeffries was a frightening beast of a fighter. He was highly lauded for many decades and his current standing in the boxing fans mind isn't what it used to be.

I think he’s somehow came out with three!

A true short changed post from a fan not familar with Jeffries or his times.

Rich seems too much like a certain other poster. Don’t be fooled.

You are right the myth continued and has only declined because of reasoning over the 110+ yrs since his reign....have you not followed the information packed arguments McVey and I have made regarding Jeffries....he had guys who were primed and ready to fight him but they would not fight a quality black fighter.....Johnson himself fought 16 times and was not defeated and Jeffries own people dug up retired has been 1w 5 loss in the last 3 yrs before his 3 year retire mentioned Corbett. Fitz hit no harder than any of the great 160lb KO fighters don't believe the hype the racist old timers used to justify their views no greater than Ketchel and yet he was beating heavyweights......you have been duped by old timers building up Jeffries into the great white Superman without the ability to assess him for ourselves. I credit lazy sports writers and plagiarism for Jeffries staying so highly rated....most had never actually seen him or many of his opponents.....If I believed these old guys Jim Jeffries was better than Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Liston, Frazier, Ali etc.....and yet struggled to KO 160/180 men with little defense

I don't really think there's some nefarious white person plot behind Jeffries being rated highly by historians from days past.
