Hey guys. My first post here on this forum. I'm hoping to make it a regular thing. I'm a massive fan of boxing, especially classical boxing, but the last 3 years I have really gotten away from watching it. I'm going to make a real effort to regularly watch fights and post on here. I really do love the sport.
I just watched Tim Witherspoon vs Pinklon Thomas for the first time. I know relatively little about them both and this is the first time I have watched them fight. Very good fight. I was impressed by the jab of Thomas and how we would fight back if he got caught. Witherspoon looked OK but seemed to really struggle after getting thumbed and his work-rate was not high enough. What thoughts do we have on this fight? How good were these heavyweights? This content is protected
Witherspoon is this kind of shape would of been hit a lot less in his sloppy victory v Bruno, both these fighters were fundamentally far more sound than Frank Bruno, that`s about as much as I can say, Thomas had a jab that troubled a prime Tyson another tool Bruno didn`t posses, this is aimed at deluded Brit fans from this era.
Understated win by Thomas over peak Tim Witherspoon. His jab was a big key and he often fought back hard when Witherspoon scored well. Witherspoon wound up quite often and threw plenty of hail Mary's but Thomas often slipped them and when Witherspoon did land hard it had little to no effect on the solid chinned Thomas. Witherspoon never solved him and it was a comfortable win.
I watched the fight today. After the Witherspoon - Tubbs fight I was hoping not to see a borefest. The fight turned out to be pretty good, with Witherspoon not finding a way to win rounds. Tactically, he looked confused and changed his habits to no advantage, while Thomas was popping him with the superior jab. Watch Larry Holmes doing the gorilla after the fight! Claiming the titles are going roulette in the division while he´s the only champ out there: Why didn´t he go and get the titles then? .....
