He's received HYPE that far outweighed his actual accomplishments. Hence, he was a hype job.

I always thought that too, judging by the way he fought Mike Weaver in 1986 he seemed to regress in his boxing skills.
But then, on the other hand, fighting like that probably wouldn't have never been enough against the top fighters anyway.

    Witherspoon would outpoint Ruddock.

Ruddock was to mercurial, He would not be able to stay on point over the course of a 12 round fight, enough to beat a more complete package in Witherspoon.

Close but I will give Spoon the nod by a few points. Ruddock could get the KO but I would not favor it.

Tim by decision. He's got the defense and chin to nullify Razor's power.

Witherspoon at his best wins this, and likely by stoppage. Tim was a hard hitter, watch his brutal KOs over Tillis, Billups, Ecklung, Gonzalez and others

Great match up that could go either way, but if I had to bet I would pick Witherspoon like everyone else.

Ruddock was more than just a puncher. See his fight with Mike Weaver to view his boxing skills.

Witherspoon would have taken any fight with any top rater in the early 90s. He simply wasn't getting very many offers and in truth was just as heavily avoided as Razor was. I followed the scene avidly in those days. Read every monthly addition of both Ring and KO magazine, watched both of their fights, listened to the commentary and gossip and I never heard any talk of a Witherspoon-Ruddock fight proposal.

I think the key for Ruddock if he could've put it together, the great boxing he displayed against Weaver to go along with the power punching he displayed throughout his career. If he could've found a way to put it together he may have been as good as anyone but he couldn't.

When it comes to the fight ending in a KO I could see it either way, Witherspoon catching Ruddock with his over hand right maybe even coming over Ruddock's "Smash". Or Ruddock catching Witherspoon with "The Smash" hurting him and finishing him off.

Good post and I agree with all the above. I don't know if this applies, but interestingly enough Tim Witherspoon was a sparring partner for Gerry C00ney at one point early in his career. Gerry was very different from Ruddock in a lot of ways, but both men through that left hooker-cut and were both pretty deadly with it.. Gerry's of course went mainly to the body and then sometimes up stairs, while Ruddock's usually went strait to the head.. They weren't exactly the same but similar. It is said that Tim really bullied Gerry around in sparring though. I don't know if there are any transferable stylistic components that would help one to decide an outcome between Spoon and Ruddock based on those testimonies, but maybe.

Fought in close for a while. As much as I am a fan of Spoon and not of Ruddock, I must say Spoon SD.

Witherspoon by late ko, Tko, or decision. He definitely had the power to kayo Ruddock, and the chin and defense and skill to survive and beat him.
