Corrie is old but still active, he fought as recently as May 2007. Many of the comments ringside from the HBO crew related to how much Wlad admired Lennox and even Wlad was working on that "lennox" uppercut. Lewis avenged his defeats, Wlad could still do the same. Corrie was a very dangerous fighter when he was in shape. Fast hands, loads of southpaw power. I am doubtful Corrie can get back into shape but maybe he won't need it. He layed Wlad out last fight early. Comments?
Chances are, he'll need a stay-busy fight and most top Hw's are already booked for fall fights...it's not a bad idea as long as he takes on the Chagaev-Ibragimov winner after that.
I think most people would agree that the loss to Sanders was not controversial. Corrie laid him out, devastated Wlad, knocked him down numerous times. Secondly, Corrie has very fast hands and was able to tag Vitaly square with full power a few times early. I think a win versus Sanders would do more for him than a win over Brewster. Also, Lennox did avenge his losses and Wlad seems to seriously be mimmicking all that Lennox has done. Same trainer, same fight plans, and Lennox was applauded for avenging his losses.
It would do good for him in the sense of " Okay, he avenged another loss ", but at this point I don't think that loss hangs over his head any more. Even though Sanders beat Wladimir more soundly, the embarassing loss to Brewster over-shadowed that. And plus, Sanders is too old.. maybe to the casual public it will mean something that Wlad avenged that loss, but to me it'll just be.. " Eh, okay, he finally avenged this loss, let's move on now ". And plus, Vitali already avenged the loss for him.
Think about who's out there........ We are running out of fighters for Wlad to beat the hell out of, and if a title unification is not available, Wlad further redeeming himself and his losses would be the best fight to take. Even at his age, Sanders would still be seen as a credible opponent, given his destruction of Wlad a few years back. Avenging that loss would be Wlad's best move, next, but only if no unification can be made. :good :good
My main reason for suggesting it, is this: Who on earth is available to fight in the fall that'd make more sense than that? Sanders isn't the best choice if everyone were available...but most guys already have their fights set. There's nothing that can be done on the unification front until early spring or late winter, most likely, and I'd like to see Wlad get in one more fight in 07.
If he cant get any other titleists why the **** not? As a stay busy fight of course. Now if he could only fight Ross Purity again...lol
' Thats true. I'd give credit to Wlad because Sanders would come out winging shots and Wlad would have to just survive the beginning and then begin beating on him like his brother did.
Sanders wouldn't even get in shape for his fight with Vitali, which was arguably the biggest fight of his career. He'll be hard-pressed to get into shape for a fight with Wladimir.
Only if Corrie beats some credible opponents. I don't even think the IBF would sanction a fight with Corrie Sanders right now. The person has to be ranked in the top 15 of their rankings.
Sanders couldnt do worse than Bewster. And don't forget, people are touting Michael Sprott for a title shot. Sanders wiped out Sprott.
Didn't manfredo get into the top 10 for w fight with JC? I think Manfredo had 1 fight at 168 before that! The IBF could easily put Corrie into the top 15.
You may be right, but I'm not aware of that rule. But, I didn't know, either way. But if that is correct and they won't allow a fight unless the opponent is top 15, I bet one win against someone known would suddenlyl propel Sanders into the top 15, if they knew a big money Sanders Wlad rematch would result. Money, or the potentail to make it, is very influential with these sanctioning bodies. :good
