Time for Diaz to go back to at least 135 and fight Valero

He clearly does not belong anywhere near 140lbs and just imagine what a true puncher like Maidana or Ortiz would do to the guy.

He really should be at 135, I agree but as Xsplosive said, Valero would lay him out probably. The skin around his eyes is terrible and I think that JMM knockout really did reduce his punch resistance. Most of Diaz's career he's had a very, very good chin that I recall. I don't think he does now and the scar tissue by the eye is far more a vulnerability.

I don't think he has any choice because fighting someone like Guzman might be even more difficult than Malignaggi and he's already fought Katsidis. Fighting Valero makes the most sense unless he wants to face that tall lanky dude, Funeka.

They don't get truer than Valero. . .Diaz is aggressive and come forward but doesn't really pack that much of a punch and his chin is vunerable although he can take some pounding. Valero TKO/KO mid rounds. . .

Valero is a very fast starter so he should be able to ice Diaz within the first 4 rounds. In the end it's still a title fight and Diaz could at least go out with a bang even if he loses.
Possibly since he's an underrated boxer that uses his length very well and stuck to his gameplan vs. the stocky Guzman. Failing that it's going to be a major step down to fight David Diaz or go for the gold(title) against Valero next year.

There's no need to worry about hometown judges when you KO 99% of your opponents.
