If you looked like Lacy, and Calzaghe was in a bar whupping your ass, somebody watching would be on the phone saying, "Holy ****, this big mother ****er is getting his ass beat, by some dude that looks like he can't fight."
In other words you believed what you were told to believe and cant think rationally or critically for yourself? So by the same logic if Calzaghe had HBO/Showtime sucking on his nut sack then you'd be one of the easily influenced lemmings lapping it all up and telling people on here how amazing he is? Great way to say you were wrong and trivialise the win, shows absolute class on your part, I'm sure your opinion will be well respected from now on :nut :rofl
Shut the hell up!:good I'm not afraid to admit when I make a wrong pick unlike others here. And if you check the prediction threads I'm near the top of all of them so I must know something.:hi: All I'm saying is that Lacy was never anything special and this win needs to stop being made out to be bigger than it really is.
"Calzaghe will fight with the heart of a true champion, but it will not be enough to stop Lacy, who hits as hard as Tyson and is as fast as "Pretty Boy" Floyd. Lacy by KO in six." "Each will have a difficult time inflicting damage on the other. But when the final bell sounds, Jeff Lacy will have successfully swarmed Joe Calzaghe enough times to win." "The key to this fight is how well Lacy will handle Calzaghe's punches because he will get hit with some good shots early on. If his chin can take Calzaghe's best shots, then he will have no problem walking him down and beating him up according to his usual style." "I’m sure Lacy’s muscles and reputation don’t cow him. They should. He’s the real deal – a super heavyweight masquerading as a super middle. He can bring down a building with either hand. It’s the one you don’t see that does ya in, as the saying goes – not with Lacy. They’re big arcing shots. You can see them from across the pond and brace, but a wrecking ball still leaves you in ruin. Joe should have his early innings – between pride, hand speed and 40,000 at the MEN Arena screaming for him – but, ultimately, he’ll be bludgeoned into the canvas by the eighth round." "The Floridian's defense, speed and agility is improving with each bout. His brutal combinations never lose their force and snap." "Calzaghe has finally met his match. Lacy might not be Steve Collins, but he is younger, stronger, and essentially fearless, and it’s hard to see how Calzaghe can keep him at bay all night. Joe is as game as they come, but look for Lacy to wear him down and possibly stop him in the late rounds." "I wonder if Lacy's airline will allow him to carry on all three belts (the IBF, IBO, and the WBO) as he returns home or if they will have to be checked?"
Not afraid to admit your wrong... then make all the excuses under the sun to marginalise it yeah... lets not bull**** a bullshitter here son. Forget current predications, from what you said in regards to being easily influenced and factoring in there's a 50/50 guess rate it means sweat FA. It seems as though no one can simply be objective about this fight, it's one extreme or the other with a lot of people. It's too late for most to save face having seen how vocal and outspoken some individuals were in the buildup to this fight. Personally I never bought much into Lacy, he beat some very good but aged fighters, albeit in devastating fashion, which is where his aura came from. Someone who knocks people out will always have this, just look at Pavlik, the man is a defeat waiting to happen. To his fans and patriotic supporters he's this invincible wrecking machine, to others he's a good boxer with sound fundementals, decent pop and a tremendous attitude and workrate who has to work hard for his wins. Had he been KO'd by JT in the 2nd round, which nearly any elite boxer would have done, then we'd be talking about him as (I dont want to say another Lacy as that's unfair to Kelly) just another decent fighter who was exposed as limited when he stepped up and faced real competition...
What is the 4 or 5 better then? I say only Kessler. Hopkins was too old, Eubank was past his prime, and the rest were not of sufficient quality. He struggled with Robin Reid, and Reid (and Woodhall) were never world class anyway IMO. The only one that could be considered better than Lacy was maybe Byron Mitchell.
thats like saying floyd win over hatton doesn't mean much because hatton struggled with a guy golden johnson blew out in 3 rounds.
man, if i were calzaghe i'd volunteer to work for hopkins corner or send enzo there to help or do something just to prevent the inevitable: hopkins getting ktfo by pavlik. There goes calzaghe's legacy.
What are you talking about? Sure Lacy didnt look like the Lacy of old but come on now you guys are the ones who over rated him nobody else did that, you guys said he was the man to clean up the divison now you want to say that Joes win over him is over rated? You guys wanted Jeff to fight Joe and unify and all of you claimed that Lacy would destroy him yet in return Calzaghe whipped his ass and now his win over lacy is overrated? you guys put lacy that ****ing high not Joe he just gave the fans the fight they wanted. The fact is all you need to know about Lacy is in his fight with Sheika, i mean for god sakes if that was not an indicator that he is a limited fighter than I dont know what to tell you, he is a strong guy who fought another strong guy last night, he made some mistakes in the fight but with that much time off his timing is going to be off, he will be a little rusty, he did get cracked I dont disagree but that was due to him relaxing too much while standing in front of Mendoza, either way that fight was close, and I think Mendoza is a much better fighter than you all give credit for. Stop with this discredting fighters BS its gotten old already.
yeah man, and floyds wins over baldo, zab, hatton and oscar are much better huh :deal :deal :deal :deal
One would have to ask if Lacy, (IF he had NEVER fought and lost to Calzaghe) would be looking the same as he does currently. I think that the schooling Lacy took at the hands of Calzaghe hurt Jeff's mind more than anything else. He was riding the hyperbole and I am sure believed it until that day in England. That is when the truth became crystal clear and all the things his trainers, friends, the press etc. told him were untrue. Doubts have a way of lingering in a fighters mind and a beating in the manner Calzaghe delivered also makes future opponents of Lacy more confident and bold in their fightplan.
I will always respect Joe C for his accomplishments though I can't find it in me to be a fan....I just find his career a bit fabricated though of course the punches he threw and absorbed are all real. I think his best preformance was against Kessler though Kess is still an open book. Eubank: past it.....Brewer: Hard hitting punching bag Hopkins: 43yrs Old and Calz look horrible Jeff Lacey: Overhyped Media toy already exposed in the Ruben Williams fight.
Reid....? Mitchell...? Sheika...? The list of tough guys who can punch is endless. Surely a fabricated career would have been stalled at one point or another if he simply wasn't better than all of them. Woodhall...? Bika...? Awkward styles against a southpaw, but still overcome. Ashira...? Sustained a broken hand in the 2nd round but still dominated by boxing smartly. Salem...? Decked by a haymaker but got up to dominate. The guy just has an insane desire to win.
