There's no such thing as bad publicity ; controversy sells. By chance or by careful orchestration, floyd mayweather is the most talked about boxer in recent history. It's either his ability, his ducking, his flaboyance, his attitude, out of ring antics, his relationship problems....the list is countless. This got me thinking.... Are we the fans being played for the long con? Watching a couple of face offs, the Cold War situation, the bad blood, etc... The boxing elite have successfully been able to create a divide among fans; keeping interest at a peek as we aggressively pursue our separate notions of what an ideal situation should be like. Bouts which ordinarily would be just ok fights become PPV events because of the comparison to what has become the norm. They split us into camps.. Be it *******s or *****s etc just like music did with the EastcoastWestcoast charade. Just to show one sect is more powerful / influential, they would buy "****" to support their own. Let's look at this for a min. Most people know rigo is as near a clone to floyd as there could be. Give rigo Floyd's resume, does he make a quarter of what floyd has made? We are so entangled in the brouhaha that we can hardly tell fact from fiction. Bob arum says the Cold War is coming to an end and we would "possibly" get Amir Khan or canelo face pacquiao, and we get excited. We fail to ask ourselves simple questions such as..what happens to al haymons management contract with khan, at what weight does canelo fight pacquiao seeing that he can hardly make 154lbs. We get lomanchenko a 1-1 fighter going for his second championship fight and rather than question the justice behind it considering that other fighters have put their sweat and blood into climbing the ranking, we make excuses for the camp we belong to. Floyd says he is all about the money and can school pacquiao any day of the week and twice on Sunday but is refusing to fight manny for the most lucrative purse in sports history just to prevent arum from making a couple extra millions and we applaud. They manipulate the sport so much and get us caught up in the smoke screen to the point we pay our hard earned money for that which should have been ordinary. Is it then surprising that writers on major boxing sites do 70% of their writing on floyd and PAC thereby also cashing in on the whole manipulation? We come on Boxingnews24 and call one another every degrading name that exist under the sun, because we have been so screwed up in out thinking that we can no longer see reason. Floyd throws in some gasoline from time to time by such utterances as TBE etc, and we go crazy, fall for the hype , look for someone " who would give us the satisfaction of seeing him lose" and 2.6m of us give them our $74.99. Of all places T.I could have confronted floyd, it had to be at a public burger store just after the solange vs jayz elevator row caused a frenzy and with all the TMT bodyguards, T.I landed on floyd....lol Anyway, let's continue to enjoy the WWE style business if we refuse to bury the hatchet and call a truce.
