Honestly, $60 a MONTH? That is peanuts! Your cable bill is almost more and what benefit to your life do you get from that? What other BS in your life are you paying for that is more than that? Reduce and focus. Boxing is worthy!

Also, I call BS because of the ring and guys to spar with. How many times a month do you go? Divide $60 by that. That is how much you pay for each "session". That is about the CHEAPEST "entertainment" you can get these days. Add to that the life changing experience of facing another man? A gym or your house can't compare. I have seen plenty of "bag murderers" in my gym. Get them in the ring and they fold like lawn chairs. You train at home? Alone? That is exactly what you will be.

That is cool, but where is your self determination to change your circumstance? Boxing, in the essence, is ALWAYS by yourself. Man, I know they hate me, but I run around my gym recruiting people to get in the beginning Boxing class. Why? Because I was a BJJ guy and was converted by Boxing. If you are in there and it is a free for all? You are hopeless anyway (I don't really mean that). Every time you spar you should go in with something you want to work on.

I can relate to you about losing focus about training. Especially if you are getting taxed in sparring. But man... when you come in and get a whiff of "The Funk"... I get goosebumps.

Huh? That is what all Boxing gyms are. Unless you are a carded amature or a pro the trainers don't give a damn... and you still PAY!

If you are beyond the basics? Intermediate/Advanced Boxing is "Person Specific" and usually just restricted/free spar with the coach on the side yelling instructions and maybe giving "corner" coaching if you are getting thrashed. There is little to gain from group instruction when one guy is 6'0" and the other is 5'6". Beyond beginning? Boxing is a personal journey or you are paying for private lessons.

After basics there is no instruction but sparring. After you can keep your hands up, throw a jab/straight/hook/combos, work the body, go high/low in combination, do offense/defense at the same time, bang for 5+ rounds straight, and not mangle your feet in the process? There is little left for the "hobbyist". The next level is to "do something" with your Boxing.

You guys are just cheap.

Understandable, but if he is griping about being able to do this "at home" or "at the regular gym" then he isn't "doing something" with his boxing. If it is a hobby, what more can a man expect?

I can agree, but unless they can guarantee guys in your weight class? What is the point? Jab drills for a short guy? Body work for the tall guy? It is goofy. Unless an instructor can split you by body/style/attribute types? It is a bit pointless. Without personals you shouldn't expect anything but the minimal amount of mittwork.

No that is any gym. All gyms are places where men (and women) are trying to make a living doing what they love. Boxing training, not training random people for FREE, is what they love. If you are not a carded amateur or pro? No trainer is going to waste his time on you UNLESS you cultivate a friendship or are scary impressive.

If you can't afford a personals? Bring food, equipment, clean for free, etc... anything as a hook up/exchange, but make no mistake, being a Boxing Coach is a tough gig and a coach has to be compensated.

Again, if you ain't "official" what is there to teach you not on a one on one basis? You could teach Larry Holmes body shots all day. You could teach Tyson jabs and fighting off of his back foot. It would be counter productive. Why? After you "get" Boxing it is about what is good for YOU to win fights not The Basics. A hobbyist should be going over his sparring sessions like Rainman working on numbers. An "official" fighter works with a COMPENSATED coach.

I was kidding about the cheap stuff. Hey man, Boxing is an insane paradox. The only guys who can do it? Are broke. The only guys who can teach it? Are too busy or broke and need money from the already broke participants. The only guys who can afford to do it? Don't want to or are too old. WTF?

As soon as you understand that you see the rock and a hard place you Boxing Instructor and Gym is in. If you can't pay? Help out for FREE at the gym!
