Despite the big right hand, his stand-up still looks shaky. His wrestling, as we all knew, is dominant. With his strength, there isn't anyone he can't take down. Now he needs to learn finish, though. There were a few times tonight he got in a dominant position and looked like he was thinking, "Now what the hell do I do?" He had about 20 opportunitues to rear naked choke Herring, but I think he's too damn big to get his hooks in. He's got a lot to learn, but he's a physical specimen. His wrestling and size alone will win him fights against tough vets, as tonight proves. A cagey jits fighter like Mir or Nog is still the worst match up for him. Give him a striker with a bad ground game next, I say. Kongo, anyone?
Was a little cautious and deliberate, but thats understandable after Mir, also Herring was using the back of the head rule as an artificial shield really, just kept covering up and leaving the back of the head. Lesnar has surprisingly quick hands, that was pretty impressive in both UFC fights. I think guys like Mir, Nog, and to a smaller extent Gonazaga and Werdum technically sound and strong enough to sub Lesnar, but I think Lesnar puts away the strikers and other wrestlers. He needs to find a balance of not spazing out, but being more of a threat to finish quickly.
He didn't want to get his hooks in; its easier to stay on top and avoid being reversed when you use a more wrestling based back control. Rashad does it alot and GSP did it against Serra. Brock most likely wasn't going to land the RNC or armbar from the back, so staying out to the side gave him alot more options and was a conscious decision.
He needs to work on his ground game. His wrestling is excellence but once he gets someone down he doesn't know how to finish a guy. What will make and keep Brock interesting is his power. Eat a shot from him and its a tough night. The guy is a beast. I wonder what would have happened had he not landed that monster punch at the beggining.
Yes. It looked like Brock was trying to stay in his comfort zone - which was the smart thing to do. When he made that one attempt to hook a choke - he slipped awkwardly. I think Brock has found his winning combination. He so strong that he should be able to trade strikes with anyone. No one is going to be able to prevent Brock's takedowns. As long as he doesn't play the submissions game with guys like Mir and Nogueira, Brock should be able to maul anyone in the UFC. That is - unless Randy Couture comes back. Couture vs Lesnar anyone? lol
Not bad for beating a seasoned vet like Herring in his 2nd real MMA fight(I don't count the first 1) Herring basically pulled turtle all night and couldn't do squat. like was said above he needs to learn some finishing but that will come...maybe, now who's next for the big man.??...I like the Kongo idea!!
I was very impressed with Brock. Last nights fight was a big deal. Herring is no tin can and Brock took him entirely out of his game plan and turned his face into a side of beef. Brock has alot of things going for him. His standup isnt that great yet he was versatile enough to throw big right hands jabs and low kicks. Not bad for a wrestler in my book.
Basically, as I thought all along, he's the opposite of Kimbo Slice - he's a star who's coming into MMA with a legitimate shot to be a real champion. All he needs is time, experience and to find the proper gameplan that'll utilize his remarkable skills. It's still shocking to see how quick he is, along with being so ****ing massive... I mean, the guy has to have his gloves special made because his fists are so damned thick.
I think when Herring basically disappeared from sight when Lesnar was getting in his riding time, pretty much explains where most of his weight is located.
I think its funny how he still returns to his wrestling schtick, when the crowd was chanting, when he did the fish thing,or when he was being interviewed..........Seems like he controled himself better this time and didnt get excited and leave himself out there to be submitted.
Herrings not that great on his back and he was getting pummeled into paste. Im sure that had something to do with Brock not getting subbed!
Id love to see that. If i have to see that French fry thump his chest one more time il fight him myself!!!!:twisted: To be honest thats a fight that Brock can win. Kongo is so easy to take down its pitiful. His stand up is good but even that in my opinion is fairly overrated. Brock would just mount him and pound the crap out of him.
After Kongo's interview I think he said he wants "tittle" shot...hehehe, Im not sure beating the Viking will earn him that. So Kongo vs Brock seems like a great fight.
