Ah, alright, fair enough then - thanks for the context. I do remember there being a fair bit of hullaballoo around him debuting, but maybe that was just here on internet forums (since Kostya was such a fan darling in his day).

The point does stand however that since becoming a headline act in the last 2-3 years, his performances are somewhat lacking in a certain je ne sais quoi. He fights in one gear with no fiery passion.

It's also the market down here IB's, which I think we touched on in the Aussie thread.

He is basically a medium sized fish in a small pond and that's why he is headlining PPV's now. He is actually getting promoted by former footy players who make most of their money off the rugby league crossover novelty fights. Which Tim has latched on to a couple of times to boost his profile.

I've actually picked against Tim a couple of times. He never really wowed me but to my surprised he did exceed my lowish expectations.
He did about as well as I expected in this fight but it went a bit different to how I predicted..we may be getting close to his ceiling.

Good win by Timmy against probably his first legit international opponent. Thought he looked real good for 8 rounds but showed that he's not quite ready for the big boys by slowing the pace in the last 4. What happens against Brian Castano if it's even-stevens after 8? He gets out-worked & loses, unless he gets another couple of fights in before he faces him. Having to go the full 12 tonight is a step in the right direction in terms of being able to sustain a pace for 12 rounds in a championship fight but they should be looking at another couple of decent quality international opponents for him between now & a title challenge. As for challenging for the title in the US, this is where the adults need to take charge. It's professional boxing. Don't throw away home field advantage. Not when you can double the number who turned up tonight for a world title tilt.

He still has the right attitude, he did admit he needs to prepare better especially mentally to go the next step. The last couple of fights against little guys didn't help where he was wild to impress the crowd and Aus media.

Before that with Horn, his punch selection looked well on the way to go the next step but then he abandoned it with his own hype from the media getting in his head.

I think Fenech and his Kostya may get in his ear as he was saying Tim isn't setting anything up just touching the gloves and hoping to load up with one punch.
He seems to be a smart kid and will realise where he needs to get back to using speed and combos instead of trying to please the media hype. If he doesn't he will become another over paid Aus can crusher for the casuals.

He's not ready for that kind of pressure for 12 rounds.Tim should improve his stamina, or he will never be ready for Brian Castano. The good thing is, i see only Castano as impossible mission for him at that moment.

At the end of the day its still a step up from fighting domestic level journeymen like Horn and Hogan. Not a wowing performance, but hardly a terrible one either. Just another night at the office for Tszyu, 2022 will be the year where he is really tested.

Tim would get more fans if it wasn't for the media love in so much hyping him to be 2nd coming of his father when he is no where near it, he is his own man & so far doing everything he needs to do, he has already exceeded my expectations but he is one of the lucky ones in that he truly is a full time boxer. I wish him all the best & hope he makes a **** tonne of money same with all boxers on his cards the struggle in Aus is real. unless your a special talent like Huni or Tszyu helped early days by last name it's hard to make a living & prosper, there is some talented fighters in the country that choose to make a decent living away from boxing & throw it away or do it part time in a sport like boxing you have to be all in, it's probably why we fall short alot of the time when we step up on world stage.

Very cool - now if only his name were Timófei, you'd have one for the name of that Honduran kid holding titles at lightweight - Teófimo! Now that'd be a funny coincidence.

I thought Tszyu fought reasonably well in the early rounds I thought he was going to get the stoppage but Inoue was tough AF. I think Tszyu was trying to get him with one shot too many times instead of combinations but I think that was because Inoue was a sitting target sort of just covering up I think Inoue didn't expect Tszyu to be so strong. It was a dominant win and a good test for Tszyu who should continue to step up. I agree the Aussie pundits and media are a complete joke you would think that Tszyu was some P4P world champion with the way they carry on but they have been doing the same thing for years with the likes of Horn, Green and to a lesser extent Mundine who also copped a lot of negative press.

This is a pretty good analysis MP, it's how i saw the fight as well...... Timmy is going to get his whiskers tested fighting the way he does against the next level up. I honestly can't see him beating Castano in Vegas next Feb/March but hope im wrong.

Hogan isn't some journeyman lol he should've got the nod over Munguía to become a champ at 154lbs but he was shafted unfortunately.

I think Tszyu will rise to the occasion and beat Castano he has the financial backing to bring Castano to Australia for the fight. Besides a rematch with Charlo I don't see where Castano is going to get a better pay day. It would be a huge fight in Australia.
