I always believed supplements for the most part were a joke and a crutch.

I never took any at all, and I never felt disadvantaged at the amateur level, and more physically competent in terms of speed and strength than almost anyone my size. My problem was skill: and supplements don't help that.

People are born with some talents; people train hard to reach their final goals; supplements are a crutch and a handicap, a short cut that can never replace mental toughness and skill.

I don't think in a mental sport like boxing they give one the insane advantage of, say, anabolic steroids in bodybuilding, where that size is mostly impossible without myostatin mutation or anabolic enhancement. Maybe at the very top level it makes a slight difference, but I think everyone is over-rating the influence of these elements on performance, which is in great part mental and innate or fat out of shape guys like Duran and Toney would never be able to compete against naturally bigger and younger guys way past their prime. And I know Toney tested positive, but he's still a fat slug.

supplements might help in long term conditioning. might minimize bloating up in between fights.

discipline is what is really needed but taking the right amount of nutrients all the time might minimize it.

No supplements wouldn't minimise bloating up after fights. How would they? The only thing that minimises this is diet and training

boxers do bloat up after a fight but taking supplements all the time means you have the conviction to maintain your nutrients intake and prevent hatton-like bloating up. discipline tho is first and foremost.
