Just seen The Rings ratings, and was shocked to see Timothy Gradley go staright to No 2. How does this work? Hatton lost to the P4p no. 1 in the world. I appeciate Bradley ahd a good result against Kendall Holt last month but surely he would of been made No 2 earlier?? Just confused, as also hatton has gone from top 10 P4P based on his loss to P4P no 1. Hopkins didnt lose any places when he lost to Calzaghe l(P4P no 2) last year.
A lot of ranking bodies do it. If you move the old #1 down to number 2 then he's still the mandatory for the new champ. I know this isn't applicable to The Ring but thats why the old champs frequently go down to 3, it keeps the top end of the division "fresh" and its fair enough in this case given how Hatton was beaten.
CHAMPION: Manny Pacquiao 1. Timothy Bradley 2. Ricky Hatton 3. Junior Witter 4. Andreas Kotelnik 5. Paulie Malignaggi 6. Juan Urango 7. Kendall Holt 8. Ricardo Torres 9. Herman Ngoudjo 10. Marcos Maidana
A 43 year old Hopkins lost a disputed split decision in a fight that many felt he won. A prime, or near prime Hatton got brutally KTFO in the 2nd round. Very different contexts for both losses.
Bollocks is it fair. Bradley looked **** in his fight and got floored twice, against a very average fighter. Hatton lost to the best in the world, an ATG, a hall of famer. Not even comparable.
Pac KO's Bradley every day of the week, in fact he'd do the whole of top ten... He wont campaign at 140 there's no one worthy enought to challenge him..... 147 here he comes!!
Its obvious hatton has to move down. If he stay's as number 1 that means he is next in line for a fight with pac. If Pavlik and Abraham fight then the loser is going to have to move down (if its a convincing win) to make room for the next guy.
I doubt The Ring take age into account when compiling their rankings. And quite rightly too, nor should anyone.
Fair enough, I just do not find it fair to see Bradley at 2. So with Pacs next fight, will it be at light welter? If not, then he will not be no 1 ranked unless he gaurantees to come back down/up in weight.
