even if there was a tripping of the legs, if a punch lands and a guy goes down the ref has no choice but call it a KD

There wouldn't be a knockdown w/o the legs involved, it's not a legit KD at all.

Well, that sounds a little similar to Quintero vs. Chavez earlier tonight.

IMO, the practicable rule ought to be "if you wouldn't have gone down but for the punch", you call it a knockdown. Yes, the feet of Quintero and Chavez were crossed up, but Chavez wouldn't have gone down without the flush punch landing. Therefore it was a bogus no-call.

I'm not that impressed. He's got some nice moves, but he throws a bit wide and can get tagged with shorter punches in between. It's perfectly acceptable...but hardly perfect.

The feature for their 500th fight I think before Gatti-Ward 2 was way better, and gave a better sense of the drama and significance of the best fights. This was a just a collage of hundreds of 1 second clips. In fact there's less and less to HBO's features the last 10 years or so.

I missed the name earlier, but am now watching the actual HBO broadcast (Lampley, Kellerman, Ward).

    You watching the international feed?

Did you watch it? Here -> https://twitter.com/HBOboxing/status/614977032779268097

I'm 100% confident that this is not a legit KD. It's just that ref is unable to see both the punches and the feet at the same time in such close proximity.

It landed. Clipped him on the chin and it was enough to put him down since he was going straight back.
