I have really small hands and I don't know which type of training gloves I should buy. I will be using them mainly for bagwork and some sparring. I'm 24 years old, only 5ft 2" tall and weigh just under 9 stone (55kg).

Does the weight of gloves also determine the size of fit? Like does 8oz gloves have a snugger compact fit around the hand than a heavier 16oz would? Or is it just the weight difference. I know my hand wraps will take up some room but i still feel many gloves i've tried are still abit loose.

Can anyone recommend a certain brand of gloves that have that tight fit and which Oz of weight I should be getting.

    Thanks for reading.

well you are a small guy huh? my advise would be to go with lonsdale gloves as I find the 12oz ones in my gym kinda comfy and well padded but id say go with an 8oz pair of gloves. Ask when you buy them if you can try them on first just in case tho

Yeah mate, theres a big difference. my hands are snug in a pair of 12oz's but were too loose in 14 oz's. i think id be able to move into a pair of 16 oz's and have enough room to charge rent :p

hahaha ok thanx mate, 16oz is defo out the question for me then haha. I looked at some of the Londale, they cost quite abit. I will check out the cheap ones like Adidas Training , think they have some 8oz.

If you have small hands, go to ringside.com and buy the IMF tech gloves - trust me, you will not find a better pair of gloves.

You don't want to be using 8oz gloves for sparring and bagwork. There will be insufficient protection for your hands, you are asking for hand injuries! Very few boxing gyms, if any will allow you to spar with 8oz gloves as they do not offer much in the way of protection for your opponent.

Look at 14 or 16oz gloves for training purposes, and contrary to some of the above advice, you can get 16oz gloves that will fit small hands - like I mentioned above, have a look at IMF tech gloves. Another pair to try is the Everlast 'Sugar' gloves, these are 14oz and they are tiny; you can get these gloves from Sugarrays.

depends what you like if you want more protection use a heavier glove

i have bad hands so i use a 14 or 16 oz glove but many people use an 8oz or 10oz or 12 oz
