i was sort of getting frustrating sparring a friend, everytime i threw a combo he'd go straight back and then he'd be sideways and also leaning back sorta like the shell that mayweather uses so i couldnt reach him, i took my time trying to figure it out but i just could land that many shots atsch and when i tried to counter him he would punch at the same time and my arms would get tangled in his. My gym is only open from 1-3 on sundays and i always go to church, then eat with my fam. So we just ended up sparring in his backyard, and thats all he would do and id rarely catch him, id catch a right straight, even worse he turned south paw. so fcking weird, and out of the norm. I felt so sluggish and sloppier than usual.
haha my friend does this things too, but you`ll start reading him after few sparrings. what i realised is when you go to counter him you must make a move with left foot forward, then his leaning wont help him (offtopic - reason why bending from waist is not good), he will put double deck and then you throw hooks to the body, make angles etc.. if your shots are still missing him, feint first shot and when he leans to one of sides, boom, there is a real shot. try this things and tell me if it works. My best friend is doing this leanings and bendings too and he naturally has brutal reflexes, but after months and months sparrings with him this is how i deal with him
I've both done this and boxed AGAINST this. So his right hand is protecting his chin and parrying his opponents' jab, left shoulder is also protecting his chin and deflecting right hand power shots coming from the outside. Usually one will do this against the ropes but it can be done in the center of the ring provided you/he plant your feet. Either way, it takes mobility away so that you will be able to move around this guy. Also, aside from a possible straight right hand, this posture takes away much of his ability to throw punches with any power on them. Don't get sloppy, but get in past that guard. Step over to your left and that will enable you to get a bigger area to target on him. You will have to throw in combinations. One punch is easy for this type of defense to pick off. That means double up on your jab to set up another punch such as a straight right to the body. Jab, rt. hand and left hook will work. Some guys roll that shoulder over and can't see the left hook zooming in on target. Hook off the jab. Double hook, body then head or vice versa. Lastly, get inside and use the left uppercut. If your sparring partner is conventional (rt handed) he bends to his right. You step over to your left and dig that uppercut a few times and he will begin to straighten up. That is when you fire the straight right hand. Remember, do not get sloppy with your own defense. The Mayweather defense is to protect and counter, especially with a quick right hand. Use your feet to close the distance, land your combinations quickly and then move out if need be. Use feints to get him to commit to the shell and then move in quickly with the combo's. Stay sharp!
thank you guys i really appreciate it, this helps alot , i feel kinda dumb now i didnt just step inatsch
