So your best punch will be your uppercut, and your defensive technique will be the Philly shell!!! You sound like a 14 year old who plays too much fight night- get a grip! Find a decent trainer and he'll teach you how to box from scratch! If someone came to me with your attitude they'd get laughed out of the gym!

Dude, I said I THINK they will be...I already said I'm not gonna go in thinking I know anything or can beat anyone.

  5. You can think what you like, when you train hard the real punch will arise naturally. Might even surprise you. Its best to goto a gym and train hard, browse all the great information in this forum. try and avoid the blues between posters
"philly shell" is an advanced style mostly seen in the pros, you should focus on basic fundamentals, maybe you are suited for the style down the track

What exactly is the philly shell and why do newcomers to the sport always talk about it? My understanding is that it's that defence some old timers used where they crossed their arms across their body...?
****'s stupid if that's what it is, not really a defence you can work off. What's the problem with the good old elbows tucked, hands up defence?

There's a world of difference between 'weightlifting' and 'weight machines'

Really? I always thought the shoulder roll was called the shoulder roll :huh
No wonder noobs want to use that style, you don't even have to lift your arms and it looks easy. And then they use it in sparring.... :!:

Well the reason I was able to get into the ring so quickly was because I was relatively strong, and threw powerful punches. Roadwork is simply jogging/running/cycling putting in that cardio, because trust me if you perform cardio 6 days a week the pounds will start shredding off even if you can only do a little bit at first. if you want to see my fights look me up on youtube my username on there is dornercr

  13. its more like an ego boosting gym warrior technique on noobs. generally walking into a fight with that posture is asking for trouble

I agree with you. About 3 fighters in my gym use that technique, with one of them having been ko'd in his last two pro fights.

I to use the philly shell but, I'm conv. and find it more diffulcult to use agaist southpaw because of different angles, but I always ended up ad******g to it. I don't really recomend it for southpaw because its rare for a southpaw to meat up with another southpaw in the ring.
