Punch him until the ref pulls you off him.

    Don't forget to breathe.

Enjoy it, you might not realize it at the time, but you're having fun.

I never had my first amateur bout but when spar my knees always shake a bit because im nervous. I would say feel out your opponent the first round and get used to moving because after a while when your fighting you get into the zone and you forget about being nervous. But the first few minutes you feel the most nervous so just get a good feel of the ring to get loose.

BE FIRST. At the sub-novice level, he who throws the most punches usually wins. Keep your hands up and throw crisp, straight punches until you are exausted. Then throw some more.

    Pretty much. Punch.

Just punch, jab, throw, move around, punch more. 3 2 minute rounds? If you arent in the shape to be doing something every single second of that distance, you shouldn't be fighting. 3x2 with a minute in between is as easy as competitive fighting gets.

Two of my club mates had their first fights yesterday and I got to do the corner. I'd say the guy will likely come at you throwing lots and lots of punches, don't get carried away or close your eyes, just hold a tight guard and punch through his combination. Don't let yourself get hit by too many because some refs will count, my two boys both got standing counts for letting 10 shots hit their guard.

Arrive early, take something with you to kill time until your fight, music or a book, try and stay relaxed, find out roughly what time your supposed to be fighting and start your warm up about 30 mins before that time. Don't eat to much in the hours leading up to the fight.

Once you get in the ring try and stay relaxed, a relaxed fighter is a fast fighter, and remember your fundamentals.

Hit the other guy more than he hits you and enjoy it, if you have your fitness right it will be over before you know it.

Also start reducing the conditioning training you do around about now and just concentrate on skills this way your body will be fresh when your fighting.

One of the most important things is:

Don't be afraid of getting punched, if you get punched dont panic and give your back or get into fetal position :) if you get punched just suck it up and punch back!

I disagree. Amatuer boxing is shot scoring not pro who looks better scoring. You do need to be active and work him but just relax and let your shots go naturally. If you feel he is getting on top of you step back, take a breather and work your way in. Always jab your way in.

Good luck, we all have to have our first fight once !

  12. Just remember its the first fight, everything is new, there is a lot to take in but remember what you're there to do. Also remember whats going through your head is probably going through the other guys aswell (if its his first fight). Work hard to win - if you don't - its not a big deal a lot of people lose their first fight.

move to your sides and not back unless it´s strategy. body shots only to hurt him and take his legs away. the refs count only head shots as points. keep moving. don´t let him get you on the ropes or in the corner. don´t let him hit you more than twice in a row...move away towards your right or left. distance with the jab an step in with your power shots and get out of there...then repeat. keep moving

That would have been my advice ! See if you can do one or two more before you fight.

    Hi jason,
Punch as much as you can, move a lot, breath a lot and don't get conscious or angry. Don't fear to get punched.
Best of luck for your match. Don't forget to celebrate your victory with other members.
