Bad handwrapping has caused me a lot of injuries, one being nearly 3-4 months long. Now when I go back out there in september I want to make sure I properly wrap my hands. This is how I wrap them now (excluding the rounds I make around my hand to come out in the right place) 1x around the wrist 3x around the knuckles 1x between all my fingers 1x around the wrist to secure in place what I just did 2x around the knuckles 1x around the thumb Make fist to make sure It's not on too tight Use the rest to reinforce my wrist Also any tips to prevent wraps from getting twisted? hate it so much every time that happens, any solution besides ironing them?
Hang them up to dry after you use them on a drying rack where they aren't bunched up, that'll help keep them from getting tangled or twisted.
i used to have the same probs until i got longest hand wraps i could (cleto reyes) and put some sponge on my knuckles, no probs now
I was taught to do three times around the wrist first, then around the knuckles, then around the thumb twice, then between the fingers, then back to the knuckles twice, then around the wrist and then fasten.
four things to look for with a wrap 1. protect the metacarpals (long bones in the back of the hand) with criss cross on back of hand 2. support the wrist 3. lock the thumb joint in place by wrapping and going to the wrist AND then to the knuckles. 4. pad the knuckles the trick is to loop the thumb ... go away from the thumb across the BACK of the hand, NOT the palm. this will set you up to loop the thumb and go to the knuckles. never cross on the palm. you have flesh on the palm and it's inside the fist so it doesn't need protection. the bones in the back of the hand do need protection, so criss cross there. when you look at your palm it should be fairly free of wrap except the knuckle level. other than that you'll find what works for you. some people like more in the wrist and some more in the knuckles. experiment and find what feels good for you, considering the attributes above.
This is a good tip! Many people just throw them in their gym bag and wonder why the wraps don't hold their hands together well anymore. dry flat wraps hold the hands heaps better and prevent injury.
Thanks for the tips [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsnKtlOLcKE&hd=1&autoplay=1&fs=1[/ame] Trying to copy that video now. Wrist injuries are my biggest problem (And finger injuries when I first started since I'was not used to clenching a fist in 16oz gloves)
yeh i used to do this and i see alot of guys still doing it i found wrapping the palm not only unnecessary but it bunched up all the flesh of the palm and made my hands hurt and uncomfortable.
