Tips

    Hey guys, I'm Erick, I just turned 16years old last week and I recently started boxing. I have an athletic backround (football and baseball), but never really had a passion for either sport. Boxing has been by far the most intense workouts (core and cardio wise) that I have had, but I love it. I know I'm starting a little late at age 16, but I think it's a good enough age that I can go somewhere with it. The last 2 weeks I've been going to boxing classes 2times a week and I have a trainer that I go to once a week (not boxing related, just lifting and workout stuff). Once I get back into good shape I plan on going to classes 2-3times a week a trainer 1 time a week and then by myself 1-2 times a week (mostly for running etc.). I'm big for my age, 6'3" 185lbs.

    I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips on workouts, brands of equiptments to use, etc

    a) your not to old to start at all
    b) your not that big at 6'3" 185lbs, im 17y.o 6'4-6'5 and around 205lbs
    c) as for tips just look through this forum and u will find heaps, theres a specific equipment thread stickied

    Chris Eubank and Marvin Hagler started at the same age, train hard buddy.:bbb

    Only tips I can think of are to approach Shadowboxing as a serious exercise (sharpens technique and prepares you for certain situations you may face in the ring) and to don't kill yourself with the running at first. Start off small and build up. I used to be in a heap from doing one lap around the park (about 3-4 mins) now I can do eight laps wearing heavy boots no bother. (45+ mins)

    good luck erick ,you are definitely not too old,but i have to disagree with dan,you sound pretty big to me.you seem to know a lot more about training than i did
    ie core work and cardio.
    i'd say you'd have to train 3 or 4 times a week to get the benefit with plenty of sparring
    plus road work on top.the running would consist of sprints as well as distance running.
    listen to what your trainer is telling you.
