Tired of people talking about old school fighters

Are you saying in order for me to mention an old school fighter like a sugar ray robinson or henry armstrong or rocky graciano I have to know their records. I'll tell you now I don't and I wont look them up unless there is some information I need. I'm too young to have seen any of these fighter fight live but have seen some of their fights not many but I know what a person mean when the say old school or throw back fighter. I'm just fan not a historian, I shoot from hip meaning, I just go from memory most of the time most of my boxing knowledge is what I've watched not what I can find on Boxrec.com. Most is just from memory.

 

I watched a lot of Sugar Ray Lenard, Roberto Duran, Iran Barkley, Hearns and their foes and I can compare them to todays fights and give my unbiased opinion.

 

I doubt most fans could real off most of todays fighers records.

Generally you remember great wins and loses, you know whos in a division etc but remembering every greats record.....nah

Also there are a lot of sites out there where you can watch old school fighters in their prime do their thing.

I'm hoping that when someone mentions an old school figher in the forum it's cause either a, they have seen them fight or b, they have watched the old recordings of them fight.

But what is the difference all I need is boxrec and youtube. Its not like I attend fights live (I only attended 1 big fight DLH-Mosley).

unbelievable.whats consider old school.its been almost 50 years since ali won the title and over half of you were not born yet.or is he not old school.stop talking about robinson or greb or pep.
if your a boxing fan a real one you explore and know boxing history.so with your reasoning indeed any baseball fan should stop talking about babe ruth jackie robinson willie mays right.im very very familar with most old old school fighters.who they fought who they beat etc etc.nope i cant tell you every fight robinson had or gavilin for example or greb either.can you tell me every fight floyd has had.
when a fighter of today is called old school that is to me the highest compliment you can find.
lets see floyd is what 43-0 or so.same as harry greb.greb had 45 fights without a loss also.beat some top fighters 4 or more hall of famers some slugs some ranked fighters just like floyd..opps sorry harry did all that in one year 1919..heaven forbid if any of us old timers mention that..no i didnt see harry fight but my dad did 6 times..my first fight i saw was on tv.marciano vs louis.i was 8 years old.what was the first fight you saw.
so am i allowed to talk about pep louis marciano charles robinson basilio gaviln moore saddler hagler monzon fullmer etc etc..

Me too acually. Some of the old fighters are truly greats but I think alot of people let nostalgia and childhood imaginations stand in the way.

There is no way NO how the sport hasn't evolved like any other sport. To compare for example fighters from the 30-60's against our generations is stupid since most of the fighters before didn't have the benefits of modern day, nutrition, training and so on. Alot of stones has been turned since then.
