    Interim titles aren't taken into consideration.

    Its the full title or nothing.

    After he won the enterim title he was emmediatly promoted to WBA regular. WBA super was created for Sturm at the request of Univerum so Sturm could avoid fighting GGG. After that, GGG destroyed everbody in his path that dared enter the ring with him, then eventually destroyed Sturms conqueror Geale as well. After Geale beat Sturm he vacated his WBA belt to avoid fighting GGG. 20 defenses (18) by KO.

    To count the regular title would be to deny the existence of Sturm as the full WBA title holder.
    All the other guys who reigned never did so in conjunction with another guy who held an elavated version of the same belt.
    Half of Gggs titles defences were bogus and fought against non top 10 level opposition. These are the factoids

    Your right in regard to Hopkins except in that case he was the one belt holder the other 2 didn't want any part of. Hopkins options were limited with Don King having control of both Holmes and Joppy. He just outlasted all of them.

    Hagler should have been champion at least a couple of years before he officially won it.

    If you get technical, Geale beat Sturm for the unified title, vacated it emmediatly to prevent his mandatory GGG, a guarantee beat down, at that point GGG became wba super and his first defense would be against Rosado, making his title defense record of the super title 15-0 (13) by KO still ahead of Monzone. Worst case scenario he is he has 2nd best middleweight title defense record. Your just trying to discredit GGG. I'll stick with the with 20 defenses (18) by KO. Kopkins has 19, because i dont think a no contest counts as a defense.

    If you want to get technical you can knock 2 defences off his run because ;
    The WBA did not sanction the Kell Brook fight and
    The IBF did not sanction the Vanes Martirosyan fight

    So that reduces his official count of 9 to 7.

    It has to be for at least one of the belts IBF ,WBC,WBA. I think we'll go right back to 20.Canelo should have been stripped of his Ring magazine belt fot pu***** out. He also never should have fought Mathew Hatton for the vacant 154lbs WBC title because Hatton wasnt even a alphabet contender at 154lbs, he was a welterweight journeyman.
